As the title states, what are your thoughts? Are you running a Mantle capable system? - For one I'm not.

I am. I think it's pretty awesome.

Will mean better scaling with console ports, lower minimum requirements, and games will look better.

Win-Win-Win for everyone.

Yeah, it does look great! I'm debating if I should upgrade now, or wait till after they enable it in Nov-Dec and see how it goes down. It's quite exciting. I've always noticed performance varies vs consoles and the lifespans of consoles far outstretch PC components.

Maybe this bridges the gap? And makes components 'live longer' like consoles?

The battlefield 4 dev's is waiting for mantle as well and their technical director stated its faster than Directx in his experience.

Check out his twitter account ...

Steam is also working in implementing and testing it.

great concept, but I wouldn't want games tied exclusively into AMD

ALL the game consoles are AMD though. They are best positioned to make something like this work.

I think its great to break away from microsoft, aka steambox, but I worry about a world without Nvidea in it

Unlike Nvidia Physx the AMD mantle API is a open standard, opensource and open API system. This means that Nvidia is welcome to add code to mantle to make their processors compatible its even encouraged ...

Thats why I like AMD they keep to open standards with all their tech, this in turn helps the industry prosper.

We've been told at the GPU14 Tech Day event that the Mantle API is open, so theoretically Nvidia could purpose the technology in their GPUs. It should also make cross-development between PC and console games a lot easier, and also more incredible for those with a high-performance AMD GPU.

Oh wow- I didn't realise that. respect to AMD then. This means Intel cards could even work with it.
