Tariffs have a long term goal, not a short term. So everyone crying about stock markets falling and short term price increases, does not see the bigger picture.
Also China's economy is relying on all the shyte they manufacture and dump in mainly the US. They can try to dump it elsewhere, but that will only last short term. Chinees government will not stand that strong if half their population loose their shitty jobs making mass produced junk.
US have too many allies with strong economies. China will back down.
Chinese exports to the USA are 2% of their GDP. That is a lot, but unfortunately for you and Trump, not enough for them to even think about backing down. The political consequences for Xi Jinping (Chinese president) of backing down are far greater than losing USA trade.

Pausing the tariffs shows both the short term and long term results of the tariffs are not going according to Trump's liking.

Yo-yo rulings, as reality sets in:
US President Donald Trump's administration has exempted smartphones and computers from reciprocal tariffs, including the 125% levies imposed on Chinese imports.

US Customs and Border Patrol published a notice late on Friday explaining the goods would be excluded from Trump's 10% global tariff on most countries and the much larger Chinese import tax.

The move comes after concerns from US tech companies that the price of gadgets could skyrocket, as many of them are made in China.

The exemptions also include other electronic devices and components, including semiconductors, solar cells and memory cards.

Trump, Vance and Elon have been taking turns to insult these so called "allies" daily from the day he was elected. Insulting them, imposing unrealistic tariffs and then expecting their support against China shows just how brain dead this whole regime is. Is there any sane person in charge?

AOC apparently has all the intelligence in becoming the Democrats new leader

Very complex topic this. Here some brilliant and insightful investors and businessmen try to unpack it all with some heated agreements, some disagreements and generally sparring it out with each other.

"Do you believe we should be making sneakers here? Do you believe we should be making jeans here? What I'm saying is, what is the objective measure of success when talking re-industrialization and what is the benchmark of success here?"

Will watch this afternoon.

Don't be salty. Its good fun when President Chump is shown up for what he is.

So Chump cancelling tariffs on electronics...is that China losing??

Lets all keep our fingers crossed and hope China dumps the near trillion dollars worth of US treasuries they hold.

Pushback from the largest state:
The lawsuit challenges Trump evoking the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to enact the tariffs, arguing the act had never been used for such levies and such powers rest with the US Congress.

The lawsuit cites multiple times from rulings by the US Supreme Court against the Biden administration in its quest to forgive student debt, noting the high court called Biden's manoeuvres a "transformative expansion" of presidential authority.

Jerome Powell speaks out:
"The level of the tariff increases announced so far is significantly larger than anticipated," Powell said in his starkest warning on the effects of the new tariffs regime.

"The same is likely to be true of the economic effects, which will include higher inflation and slower growth."
The rise in the effective interest rate the US government had to pay on its bonds is reported to have contributed to the president's decision to pause some higher tariffs.

The US does not normally see high interest rates on its debt, as its bonds are viewed as a safe investment, but rates spiked sharply last week in a sign investors were losing confidence in the world's biggest economy. They have settled this week, but remain elevated.
The central bank has been attacked by Trump for holding rates unchanged. The president's campaign promises included calls for lower interest rates in order to bring relief to borrowers.

If tariffs push up inflation, as many economists expect, the Fed could decide to hold or even raise rates. Traders on Wednesday kept their bets it will continue to cut rates this year.

Do you agree with the formula used initially to tariff all countries?
I don't follow other countries politics in depth.
I don't even follow my own country's politics in depth
You won't see me frequent political threads.
I just saw here many don't understand what the goal of tariffs are.
And then I saw people thinking memes are facts.

So no, I cant agree or disagree on something I did not follow. Politics mixed with economics is not that simple. You must see who is bluffing, who is desperate, who hold the cards, who is too dumb to drop their ego etc etc. And If you can manage to figure that all out properly and have the real facts, you can maybe predict the end goal/results.

Politicians will do extreme things to divert attention from other things they doing. So trying to make sense from a economical perspective is not always wise. Half of it is normally just hot air. That why I don't care for politics.

Pro: Returning American production to its shores, and showing countries that its not a free-for-all bank account to be abused.
Cons: Implementation could have used more thought and slightly less aggressiveness. Not all production can be returned as some is just no longer viable.
