Thoughts on Volvo

So basically the same complaints as a sportscar without the good looks or power, just good safety and comfort instead.

I think we should shake off the impression that somehow we are getting a raw deal in terms of car maintenance. The costs of upkeep on any vehicle are the same if not steeper in their originating locales and other developed locales (from currency or even purchasing power perspective).

The only difference is that people keep their cars for less time, and basically manage their account at the dealer like a mortgage, and there are more of them on the road which makes this possible. Pretty soon we'll see Chinese ev's dressed up as Volvo's and then this will become a reality.

Difference is that on some mainstream vehicles is that there are alternatives. Some parts parts of Toyota, BMW, VW etc can be sourced from second hand/ alternative sellers. Not so with Volvo/Alfa or any other niche vehicle manufacturer. You have to go to the dealer where you promptly get violated.

now there is plenty issues, started 5 days after motor plan was out lol ... I did upgrade to a bigger intercooler, loaded ACT software and did decat and 76mm downpipe, 221kw and 464nm

Aside from the mods effecting the reliability, they could also be the reason for the resale ?

Could not even sell this one last year for R100 000 when it was still under motor plan and had 70 000km's on the clock. (And still owed the bank R160 000 on the loan)

FWIW, my C30s traded the same as the equivalent BMW / Mercedes / Audi and in fact, I got more than my moms Mercedes B Class for my one (same year, similar KM. same upfront cost)

That's because they are often the same car with different badges. I don't believe what you say is true for BMW and Mercs (I had a Beemer and the parts are very specific to their stable). This doesn't mean you shouldn't buy a niche car brand, and it certainly doesn't mean it is an inferior car. The dealers have an interest in selling their cars so they have no reason to overprice the parts. The biggest cost is usually custom duties on import parts that stand at around 40% of list price value. Once there are more of a model on the road, it becomes sensible to produce these parts (retrofitting usually) at local parts manufacturers. And don't diss our parts sector, they often get shipped back to brand's originating country. This is for examply why Jeeps are a better buy than Alfas because they are a big brand in USA and the parts come cheap from there, even though they are both Fiat Brands. I have heard of problems with Jeeps but these are usually local know-how shortcomings that will get filled in with time.

I honestly don't find the Alfa pricing to be bad... It's on par with German rivals for the most part

I think Alfa probably has the worst resale value by a long shot in the premium car segment, R50k will get you a whole lot of 2hnd Alfa but the spares and repair costs are outrageously expensive.

What's the dealer cost for a cambelt service for a 330i?

Who still goes to a dealer when out of motorplan? :erm:
Easier to compare IMO. If I say my mechanic can do this car for Rx and yours does a different car for Ry it might just be that one of our mechanics are cheaper than the others...

Just to compare in other words. If you still take a car to a dealer after motorplan, then you probably have too much cash to waste :)

Now this is my kinda Volvo yo!

"Volvo Car South Africa has been allocated 28 Polestars from the 750 that will be produced and sold in 14 countries. Of our shipment, 25 have already found homes. The final three will be used for marketing purposes, but Volvo might be persuaded to sell one of these to you if you ask nicely…"

Gonna stick my neck out & say possible future classic.

You two fail to forget that this is Polestars 1st road car...if anyone does not know what that means then that person should not be in this thread in the 1st place.

Only 750 total made for select 14 countries & 28 units in this country; all sold.

So even if one of these 28 blokes want to sell their Polestar it certainly won't be worth "half"...that I can tell you

Well, as much as I really love the Polestar, I would rather get a 340i. It takes a special kind of buyer to buy a Polestar - much the same as Alfa

But it's a vulva?
:D

Eek! Just put in an OTP and paid a holding deposit for a 2007 C30, crossing fingers it wasn't a mistake.
Post a pic of that model please.

As long as you got it for a song and aren't planning on selling it soon and have some backup cash in case something goes tits up it should be fine, they do make nice cars.
