The theme of this week's friendly is Darkness

I'll pick a winner next Friday at 08H30, and announce them in here. Winner will host the next contest.

Fanie's Rules Apply:
1) Pictures must be taken with a mobile device (phone or tablet)
2) Pictures must be uploaded to this thread.
3) You have to tell us what device you used to take the picture, and any special software you might have used. Editing your pictures is fine — this is art.
4) Feel free to add a little back story — we want to know how the picture came to be.
5) As many entries per person per contest per person as you like!

Good luck, everyone!

Theme Notes:
- It is up to you to decide what you want to depict as darkness. It could be the night, deep shadows, predominately dark tones in the photo, etc.
- Back stories please!

Random, just came up on my Facebook memories.

S5 2014. Just playing with new phone.

Bruce Dickinson, Iron Maiden concert, Johannesburg, May 2016

Taken with my Samsung Galaxy Note 5, mild crop, a fair bit of editing with Photoshop express.

I like the strong contrast of this shot, captures the emotion behind the music (something seriously lacking in modern pop).

Long exposure shot.
Read about light painting, and tried it. What you see here is my daughter, swinging her LG G4 around with the screen on. Was about 4 seconds.

Awesome photos from everyone. Looks like we are off to a strong start this week.

Heavily modified and cropped with photostudio pro.

S7 edge.

Baby Red breasted dove we found in the garden, just starting to fly.

Long exposure shot.
Nice.

The dark doesn't like my light.
(Really like this glass lamp stand, have broken it once, glued back together and now knocked it a second time. More glue!)

Time to judge. You guys did not make it easy - there are some really high quality photos here.

In the end AstroTurf is the winner for post #3. A very effective composition that conveys emotional impact. As a side note, when more formal photo contests are judged, one of the things they look at is precedence. In other words how often photos that look like this have come up before. Doing a Google image search showed that the techniques applied to #3 have very little precedence.

AstroTurf, could you please set up the next competition.
