London (CNN) -- Three men were found guilty of plotting a terror attack they hoped would be bigger than the July 7, 2005, bombings that rocked London, UK prosecutors said Thursday.

Ashik Ali, Ifran Khalid and Ifran Naseer, all from Birmingham, England, were convicted at Woolwich Crown Court on 12 counts of committing acts in preparation for a terrorist attack.

The three men planned to set off up to eight backpack bombs in crowded areas, and had traveled to a terror training camp in Pakistan for expert training and preparation, the court heard during a 14-week trial.

"Had they not been stopped, the consequences would have been catastrophic," said Karen Jones, a specialist counter-terrorism prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service. "These men had dangerous aspirations."

While their precise targets remained unclear, "the potential for damage and loss of life from their plot should not be underestimated," Jones added.

"The evidence we put to the court showed the defendants discussing with awe and admiration the attacks of 9/11 and 7/7. These terrorists wanted to do something bigger, speaking of how 7/7 had 'gone a bit wrong.'"

West Midlands Police said Naseer, 31, talked of "spilling so much blood you'll have nightmares for the rest of your lives."

The three men posed as bogus charity collectors within their local community to raise money to fund their plans, the police statement said.

Naseer was also found guilty of helping four younger men travel to the terror training camp after he, Khalid and Ali, both 27, returned from Pakistan, it said.

"The link to training camps demonstrates the international dimension of the threat we continue to face," said West Midlands Police Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale.

"The numbers involved in terrorism are small but the potential impact they could have if successful is huge."

The men are due to be sentenced later this year.

The judge told them all to expect life sentences with substantial minimum terms, the police statement said.

The July 7, 2005 bombings in London, which targeted buses and the subway, killed 52 people and injured more than 700.

Yet the majority of people (3rd World Immigrants) find these "corrupted states" quality of lifestyle and freedom exponentially better than their home countries and yet they still want to destroy it, I would love to know what they are thinking, surely religion cant be the only motive behind such twisted idea's :wtf:
 
don't know about virgins on the other side, but on this side i'm sure they will be sponsored with some razors.
 
Apparently these guys where extremely stupid. Easy to latch onto and easy to catch. Seems like Arab terrs aren't getting the training from AQ they used to get. They get recruited at the mosque, which obviously are all been watched..., they then hang out with dudes already on the watch list. They download terrorism videos off the Internet from a website being monitored by counter terrorism officers.(these aren't shut down because they are such a valuable source of intell)

They all try their best to look as much like bin laden as possible.

And then place large orders for fertiliser....

Will never forget, after 9/11 he was quick to "condemn" the attacks. A year later he was celebrating the "magnificent 19 ( hijackers), the hero's that split the world into 2 camps, the believers and the kuffar".

The signs were there before 9/11, it's just that law enforcement doesn't overlook them since then.

Not sure about that. Wasn't the conspiracy to commit a crime also a big part of the Boeremag trial? I know they killed that one lady, but some of the charges were also relating to their plan to do more.

Maybe it depends on the type of crime someone plans to commit?

So someone can openly plot a rampage killing with their legal weapons, and you will just have to wait for them to commit it?

I'd expect them not to sit on their hands if I was in that position.

They went to train overseas with extremists hell bent on destruction of that state and its people, then they CAME BACK to live amongst those people they categorically consider to be their enemies, then they stated why they came back and what they were planning to do, and they demonstrated that they had knowledge of how to carry it out.

Yeah, if I was in that position I would expect a very harsh response from the SA gov.

Talking about it, and talking about it and then going all the way overseas to a fkn desert to explicitly learn exactly how to do it.

Oh you did some national service. Cos that's like totally the same thing as going to a completely different country on your own time and dime, investing yourself into the conflict to the point of no return, to have them train you to fight against the country in which you reside, to which you then return to for a very obvious reason.

Also, you watered down all their smack talking to "kill xyz". No, they were very specific, already on the finer details actually.

And yes, a threat from someone with military training would carry more weight than a threat from someone without, all other things being equal.
