Three Ficksburg Constables Arrested

Three police constables have been arrested in Ficksburg for allegedly assaulting residents, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said on Tuesday.

Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini said the officers, known locally as the "Rambo Squad", were arrested on Tuesday morning.

They allegedly assaulted people in Meqheleng and Ficksburg over the weekend of August 10.

One of the victims was allegedly run over by a police vehicle.

The Ipid would investigate an attempted murder charge, after police previously opened a docket of reckless and negligent driving.

Dlamini said the directorate was notified of the incidents on August 14 and started to investigate the next day.

"The investigation uncovered sufficient evidence to warrant the arrest of the suspects," said Dlamini.

More arrests were expected.

Looks like the SAPS have their hands full with their own members, no wonder the criminals have free reign in this country, the cops are to busy chasing the cops....

The Freestate is a rough place.
Did a IT contract in Maseru in '99. Stayed across the border on a farm near Ladybrand.
I went up there twice before having to do a 6 week stint with two co-workers. I'd been keeping it very low-key, but the first night they decided to go test out the local nightlife. I was still tired from the drive and passed on this, all action I wanted was on the tv.
Around midnight they stumble into the farm, bruised and bleeding.
Seems at one pub some locals did not take well to strangers from the city and picked a fight with them. They were both 24, fit, big guys. They didn't stand a chance.
Turns out the other guys were the local station commander's son and his friends. They had a reputation for doing this, but the one time someone pressed charges the docket 'dissappeared'.
