Is there an easy way to port a number of accounts from Thunderbird to Outlook?
We had literally 1000's of mails in Thunderbird & we deleted quite a lot, then it asked us if we wanted to compact folders, which we did.

Now Thunderbird is frozen...
Any ideas?

Try and set up the outlook in the meantime, sometimes the emails are saved in a server, an email client will be able to pull old email from the server as long as it's not deleted from the server.

if your email accounts are setup as IMAP accounts in Thunderbird, all email are stored on the server.. If your email accounts are setup as POP/POP3 accounts, all email is stored on the email client on the machine running said email client..

Now, if they are in fact, IMAP accounts, it is as simple as setting them up in Outlook and the email will just download a copy from the server.. For POP/POP3 accounts you would need to get creative.. I would do the following:

- If existing email address is [email protected], create new email address [email protected].. Set the new email address up as an IMAP account in Thunderbird(assuming its not frozen anymore)
- Now, drag and drop/copy your emails/email folders between the two accounts in Thunderbird.. Copies of the emails will then be uploaded to the server..
- You can then setup both email accounts in Outlook as IMAP and reverse the process to get the email back to the original email address in Outlook..

Thanks, Thunderbird is frozen. Does nothing after loading.
I'll check the IMAP way.. hopefully the (many) accounts are set up that way.

I use the standard POP/POP3, Microsoft Mail wasn't sending any mail so I switched to Em client, the setup is automatic, just enter your email and password and everything sets up automatically

Automatic setup is not dictated by the email client alone but, a protocol called autodiscover and specific DNS records needing to exist, which tells the email client which settings to use to autoconfigure the email account..
