Last night at 2am I am ready to call it quits and go sleep when I notice a tick under my dog's fur. So I google away and get my tools ready.

A comb, alcohol (Listerine), tweezers, germolene cream and gloves (ok actually a sandwhich bag because i don't have surgical gloves) :D

Now I'm not going to act all mucho I must admit It was disgusting and gross! I was pretty freaked out. I was squirming like a little girl! So I rub this thing anti-clockwise like the many sites recommeded. After 5 minutes this tick is still firmly attached so that wasn't helping. Then I pinched the skin elevating the little beast and shaking like a leaf put the tweezers in place ready for the swipe. Then gently as close to the skin as possible I closed the tweezers and pulled the bugger off. With some force he was firmly attached.

After that he fell on the floor and started walking around. I applied germolene cream and got the dog out the bathroom. Put the tick in an empty container and poured in listerine mouth wash. He was at the bottom of the pool ;) for about 5 minutes but I it wouldn't die. Its was just so big that I was muffed out by squashing it. I wrapped it in a couple layers of toilet paper and layed it on the floor. Didn't want to have it's blood and guts everywhere and so I stepped on it with a super stomp. Then flushed it down the toilet.

In the process I washed me hands about 5 times and moped the bathroom floor twice.

I know im probably sounding like a big girl about the whole thing but it was really gross! Disgusting creature it freaked me out. This is what it looked like:

About double the size of a pea.

The people who stayed in the place we just moved into were dirty, really dirty! We had to paint the whole house inside while moving just to get the place clean! The garden was neglected in the past 2 months prior to us moving in and so it looked like a jungle. The garden did get cut down and trimmed etc but im presuming this is the source of the little bugger.

Next time cover the tick with Vaseline completely. Ticks breathe through their skin, and if it's covered with Vaseline, it'll just die, and loose its grip on the dog.

Gross.

Those grey ones are fine to just pull off, no need for all the paraphernalia. Better check for more.

TL: I thought of doing that but how long does it take for it to fall off?

My dog use to get plenty of ticks on it. We had to remove them daily. Because of where we stayed for the first 4 years of Snoopy's life he picked up around a dozen a day. Fortunately he never once got ill or picked up a disease. That foxterrier was made of steel.

We just twistedd the tick off. We the heads that stayed behind feel off soon enough. We then gathered the ticks in some tissue paper, poured methalated spirits on it ...and set it on fire.

Within seconds you heard the pop, pop, pop!!! :D

Well I had this tick in Listerine mouth wash for 5 - 10 minutes and it was at the bottom so no air. It survived and was walking around the bottom the whole time as if it were on holiday.

vaseline can cause the tick to regurgitate* and thereby infecting the host.

*According to Dr. Mike Leahy - bite me, on national geographic

Next time go on a tik adventure ... I guarantee you it'll be more exciting than a tick adventure

At my mom's house I was about 15/16 we also found one on the dog we had while swimming. So my brother's friends pulls it off and drops it on the paving. He took his big toe to squash it. We were intrigued by this and took a closer look. Bam this thing exploded and all the blood a whatever else crap flew into my brother’s face and mouth :D

I saw on tv last night not to do this or use poison. Apparently when you smother the tick it starts regurgitating it's food stomach content which just makes things worse. Use strong tweezers around the mouth area and like the guy demonstrated you might just need a scalpel for a tiny cut as pieces can get lodged in the skin.
