Hello,

I was recently given a whole string of tickets by some crazy policeman who woke up on the bad side of life.

I went to a store(small town) two blocks away from my house, without a helmet. Since I forgot my backpack at work. I couldn't carry the groceries and my helmet and start the scooter all at the same time..

Parking is even more problematic. as my scooter doesn't have a kick stand.

So, this police officer gave me like
  • R500 ticket for not having a lisence with me (even though its only a 80cc electric scooter)
  • R250 for not having a helmet
  • R250 for an outdated vehicle lisence plate(but It was paid, the lady I bought the scooter from last month just forgot to put it on the scooter)

I just got my code B (light motor) vehicle lisence 4 months ago..

You all know how hard it is to get hold of a lisence. What am I supposed to do?

How should I drive to work? They can't expect u to have a license if the government can't provide us with public transport !!

So basically what I would like to know is, can I ask for leniency?

Since I don't earn much.

That R500 should be for not having a licence. You are supposed to produce the licence in court and than they will charge you for not carrying it with you. You can ask for leniency when you plead guilt.

I suppose you could go out again without wearing a helmet, fall off, crack your skull open and possibly die, then you'll never have to worry about paying tickets, or making excuses. On the bright side, it's good to see the police doing their jobs. Perhaps you should retake your test or read about the rules of the road.

That police cop/man is an idiot. Take the tickets and go see a public prosecutor. Tell them your story, take all the proof with, like the existing licenses etc. He will give you leniency if not cancel the damn lot!

Yep, doesn't seem to outrageous to me. Keep your license in your wallet - problem solved. Put the disc on the day you get it - problem solved.

And driving without a helmet? Just plain looking for trouble (you'll stand out like a monkey in a bunny-pen).

I think you got off lightly...hope you learnt your lesson (albeit an expensive one).

2 blocks away you could have walked imo. You will get them reduced if you go to them and whine a little bit. Anyway... off home in my licenced car with my seatbelt on and driver's licence in my pocket. Bye all.

Please go back to the part about you live in a small town but your forum location says "CT". Both cannot be accurate descriptions of where you live.

Yes - we complain that they're not doing their jobs, and when they do, others complain.

One would think someone who got his/her license only four months ago would still remember all these rules. Of course, maybe the OP also studied from a test supplied by a friend and never actually bothered with the required material.

You didn't read anything it seems

let me repeat myself for you..

I have a code B (Light motor vehicle)
I have an apointment for a learners lisence exam for my motorbike scheduled in thre weeks

I bought the vehicle from another lady who'se name the bike is stil under. She told me she paid the vehicle's lisence renewal.

I barely had the scooter for a couple of weeks. The town doesn't even have any robots. People walk everywhere they want to go..

There is no accidents here ever. But the police are on a rampage for some reason.
Hot Fuzz

I read these replies and I can't help but feel for you're ignorance.

Something I should probably add is, I was on my way to a store for some biltong to pay the guy who fixed my scooter the previous week.

Have 10minutes drive from work, 10minutes drive back to work.
ate 20minutes and then only had another 20minutes to do my shopping and get back to work.

That is why I didn't walk, I always walk to store or ride bicycle.
But on this day the bicycle was not an option since I was in a hurry.

I saw lots of kids in high school who drive to school in scooters, even though they are only grade 8 or 9.
Not to mention the legion of Quad bike riders around town. Some of whom are quite rich (small town politics) and they get away with driving without a helmet but not me.

Wait.. so you were driving a "motor cycle" without a license? and the license disc on the scooter was expired, and you weren't wearing a helmet at the time?

Then all the fines are totally valid and you better pay up lightie.
