Hi everyone,

I am trying to find out if I am getting my money's worth here and could use some help.

I recently subscribed to Tidal music streaming on the HiFi tier mainly for Dolby Atmos music.

I was blown away by the quality of HiFi, Masters and Atmos on my Galaxy S9 using earphones.

I recently bought an Dolby Atmos capable sound bar and hooked it up via HDMI ARC to my UHD TV. On Netflix and Prime I get Atmos and the sound is great.

I discovered that there is a Tidal app for the tv as well but here comes the problem... with it setup as I have currently I am not getting the HiFi or Master icons and also no Atmos as on the Android app.

I understand the app does not support Atmos yet or maybe won't ever but no where am I able to find out at what quality the music is played through the tv app to my soundbar. Not even their support knows.

Is there anyone out there able to provide me with this info? My soundbar only shows pcm or dolby audio no indication of flac 48khz 16 bit or whatever.

Also I was thinking of getting me the Apple TV 4K to hook up directly to the sound bar for better quality maybe but scared it won't be any better. Anyone with some input on the sound quality of this little box?

TIA

To get the very best out of Tidal, you will need to get Roon as well as a device that can do MQA ...

If you are not an absolute audio nut, then don't go there.

Thanks for the reply. I just forked out R7k on the sound bar. I will consider the apple tv because it has other benefits too but not going to spend any more for a little better audio quality.

Was actually hoping someone can just tell me the quality from the tv app if they have a receiver that shows this info or if the apple tv app has hifi quality so I can decide if its a big enough difference in quality for me to go for the apple box.

It sounds great though..miles better than mp3 over bluetooth for example.

It would, sound better, than mp3, enjoy!

I doudt you will get better audio out of the Apple TV box, but that is up to you.

Tidal confirmed that the smart tv app runs at 320kbps AAC max, I am awaiting the specs for the Apple TV 4K but I was able to chromecast in HiFi quality from my phone to the soundbar which sounds considerably better than AAC
