Hey,

Recently I have pretty much been forced to look for a new ISP as I am tired of putting up with Webafrica. The line itself is fine, but their billing department leaves much to be desired.

In any case, I have a combo deal (paying for adsl circut and a 3gb account) in one. So to move to a new ISP I saw this as being a potential problem. I sent a mail off to cybersmart to enquire. Here is the reply:

The process for changing your ISP would involve the following:

Due to the fact that you pay WebAfrica for your ADSL circuit, they
would have to cancel your ADSL circuit on your line and you would have
to re-apply for an ADSL circuit through us.

There would be an approximate "down time" of at least 21 working days whilst the ADSL circuit is activated through Cybersmart.

 21 DAYS ? This seems totally outrageous. I cant deal with 21 days of no internet (yes addict) so instead I am essentially trapped into having to deal with Webafrica.

Is this going to be the case with all ISP's ? When I was originally deciding between these combo packages and just getting the line through telkom I actually asked if it would cause an issue if I ever moved ISP's and was assured it wouldnt...

So is there any way to move to another ISP without having 21 days downtime ?

Mabe this will help:
Cancel your webafrica, then apply for just an adsl line at telkom- should take less than 10 days and then get your user and password from Cybersmart and off you go.
Hope it works :)

Hi Tehtroopa,

Sorry to hear you having issues with billing. Send me a PM and I'll investigate, I'm sure I can help you out.

i would not even bother with cybersmart they are worse than you could imagine. WA are in my experience far more competent
