At our business we have this very old clocking machines, for employees to clock in and out. We neeeded a new system because the old one only runs on windows xp, and the pc it runs on needs upgrading, and I want to load windows 7. The company that supplied the old machine said they will not write a new program to run on windows 7, so we must get a new system.

So that company quoted me a system for R35 000 for a fingerprint reader, and software, which is crazy, cause we have only about 35 employees. So I tried the company that installed our surveylance system quoted me R9000 for also a fingerprint reader and software. But now the software that came with it just log all the in and out clocking, it cant calculate the hours worked. So we will have to calculate each employee's time every day.

Now, where can I get or a whole new system for not so high, or just software to run with the current reader? All the programs I've googled is very expensive, and I dont want to pay for it if I'm not sure it will work.

But, I will prefer to send this system back, and try another company for a new package.

Ideas?

What is the model of your current reader? F7?
 
You can still run the same old software on windows 7 in windows XP compatibility model.
 
Why does machine need upgrading? If it's been chugging along happily for years, and you're happy with it, keep it as is. Or just get XP on the new one. If it's a dual use machine, buy a new one for R8k and leave the old one dedicated to it's job. Give it a clean so dust doesn't kill it.

Cheaper and easier.

Also, if the PC seriously needs upgrading as in the hardware is dying etc, just load windows XP on it again when you buy a new system?! That thing will crank on for another 10years no worries.
 
yES i ALSO THOUGHT OF THAT, BUT THE OLD CLOCK MACHINE IS VERY OLD, AND WORKS WITH TAGS, WHICH IS ALWAYS A PROBLEM, CAUSE YOU KNOW WE WORK WITH NEW sOUTH aFRICAN PEOPLE WHO CUT CORNERS EVERY WAY THEY CAN, LIKE CLOCKING FOR EACH OTHER AND SO ON, THEN SCORING OVERTIME. SO THATS WHY WE WANT A FINGERPRINT SYSTEM. WILL CHECK THE MODEL NUMBER, WILL HAVE TO UNSCREW IT FROM THE WALL.

There is a much more serious problem at hand though, your keyboards capslock button seems to be broken :eek:
 
In what format does the software output the log file? Maybe you could create a small MS ACCESS or Excel jobby that would calculate the times automatically. PM me a copy maybe I can help you with that. Programming is my speciality.
 
Okay, just spoken to the guy who supplied the clocking machine. Looks like he's going to take the machine back, so nows for searching again for a new system. Any suggestions, ones you had experience with?
