In the UK they try and save lifes by detering speeding with visible speed camers. In SA they do the oposite as lifes mean nothing to them, they want to hit coin out of it.

Did you guys know in Japan, you actually get boards indicating that there is a speed camera in 500m then 400m, 300m, 200m, 100m as you approach the camera.

They do a good job notifying you that you are entering the average speed zone.

Same in Natal, so if you get caught it simply underlines the fact that you are a Cretin!

I wish they would do here like the do in Japan, then I will know exactly when the dumb@ss in front of me is going to slow down to 20km/h BELOW the speed limit, or suddenly brake.

Cape Town traffic officials on Tuesday said high-tech speed cameras on the M5 are proving highly effective.

The cameras record motorists’ average speeds over a stretch of highway and fine them if they are found to have been speeding.

The technology was installed under the bridges of Kromboom and Wetton roads in 2010.

The cameras were problematic during the pilot phase.

However, city traffic’s Merle Lourens said they are now working overtime.

“It was around about 20 or so of January that we started charging people so there have been quite a number of prosecutions so far. People will be receiving their fines through the post and if they don’t pay, they will have to appear in court,” she said.
