Ken jy die wet van Transvaal?, but those prices are not that bad, much better than the ones I read about....
You mention when I begin to hear noises, what type of noises are we talking about?, hard or soft?, will you feel anything? (currently no noises at all)
Im also thinking about keeping the Merc, We have a old 1989 Toyota Corolla Sprinter, its a 1800 TwinCam GSI or something like that, but it only has +- 30k km on the clock, the car is basically brand new (my grandfather would rather walk than drive), anyway, I'm pretty sure I can get 40k for that car since, its honestly unbelievable that its so old but in such good condition, my father drives it once a week around the block so that the battery does not die.
Offer it to mybb first before you flog it. Sounds like a great car
I think it would be GLI. That Km is crazy low. I will give R47k and buy you a timing chain
Time for a new car?
Let me start of by saying I have a crappy IT job so yes, money is a problem.
Currently I drive a 2004 C180 Kompressor (the Face lift), Its sitting on 200k Km’s, The car is in immaculate condition and drives like a dream, not a single mechanical problem
I read that at 200k KM’s the timing chain starts giving issues, this costs ± R20k to replace, any truth to this?
R47,200, a timing chain and a R200 voucher to Hard Rock Cafe in Sandton.
I haven't read the whole thread but I wouldn't worry too much.
My dad has a c320 with 265k km's and he hasn't had a major mechanical failure during the course of his ownership of the car (150k km's)
The w203 range was pretty sound mechanically with most problems being electrical gremlins.
In fact, his car has been SO reliable, I've been having sleepless nights of lust after those lowish mileage c32's you see on autotrader for cheap
EDIT: Forgot to add, with all that mileage, his c320 still pulls like a train, never missing a beat.
R50k, timing chain and a lapdance at the strip joint of his choice...
Sounds like a good deal as long as it's not you giving him the lapdance.
Alright Lament, how about we do R51,050, timing chain, 21 piece bucket of KFC and a picture of a 1991 COTY Monza GSI signed by saturnz?
It has central locking and aircon, but doubt it can reach Capetown and back on 1tank of petrol![]()
Timing chains can go as early as 60k km. There have been a few cases reported on the mercedes german forum.
You mention when I begin to hear noises, what type of noises are we talking about?, hard or soft?, will you feel anything? (currently no noises at all)
The timing chain on these mercs are a crap design, it's a single thin chain refered to as a 'bicycle chain' by those in the industry. They could have spent a few rands more and used a double chain.
Apparently it's a ratteling noise. Has yours never been replaced during any of your services? Besides the chain the sprockets also wear so those need to be checked as well.
