Hey guys my line has been down for over a month but is now back up and running, however, me and my mom are having trouble connecting more than one device to the router at a time. We both have laptops that connect wirelessly to the router but all of a sudden now we cant. Every time one of us tries to connect whilst the other person is online the connection will always time out, whether it be the persons already online or trying to connect. This never happened before and seems like a simple problem to fix as its only timing out.

Any solutions? thanks peeps.

Your post has insufficient info.

Please include:
Router make & model
DNS settings in use
Exact error message
ISP
Changes in hardware/line during that month

My router is a Netgear DG8 bought from Telkom

My ISP is Telkom and Mweb

This is my DNS info which i got straight from my routers setup page 196.28.80.140 196.28.80.139

The error message i get says "Windows can not connect to Nick ADSL (my routers name)" then i click diagnose to see the problem and it says "Windows can not connect due to the connection timing out" or something along those lines.

Oh and nothing has been changed, all hardware is exactly the same as was used prior, same RJ11 cable, same splitter same everything.

Hmm. Interesting. That really is the connection to the router. i.e. The wireless setup is screwed, not the internet link.

I haven't got a ready-made solution for you, but I can tell you what I'd do.

First, I'd use 2 RJ45 LAN cables to make sure that it really is the wireless thats the problem. Connect the laptops directly to the router & see if that fixes it.

Next, change the wireless channel on the router to 6 or 1 (Should be on 11 by default). Set the mode to b & g.

Also, I'd consider installing netstumbler. Its an app that can be used to check out what other networks are in the area & what channel the are on etc. Useful for figuring out if there is some clash. Note that netstumbler will take down your internet connection on the laptop until restart, so dont freak. Post screenshots if you can't interpret the info.

Finally you can try to run the wireless connection without encryption. This will eliminate encryption related issues...sometimes that gives strange issues. Do not leave it without encryption for long since its a calculated risk.

You can also try to roll-back the wireless card drivers on the laptops, but leave that for last resort.

If you like you can also post the network config of both laptops here & see if anyone spots something. You can dump them to a textfile on your Desktop by typing the following into the command prompt (Start->Run->cmd) so that we can check for issues there.
Code:
ipconfig /all > %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\IPconfig.txt

Also, does it time out 100% predictably or just most of the time?

guys im having trouble with something on my line or router or isp or something..
Go make your own bloody thread. Its rude to hijack someone else's.

its even more rude to to get so sticky over a first time offense of this nature... could've pm'd me and simply asked to create my own thread with a little more respect

You've been registered here close to 2 years & 100+ posts. By that time thread hijacking rules are assumed knowledge & breaking them result in flak.

Nonetheless, thanks for removing those two miles of ping logs. I suspect you'll find your answer in the Seacom/MWeb threads.
