I don't know if all of you are aware, but Telkom enforces a timeout policy on ISPs that buy bandwidth from them.

This is how it works:
<1gb left on your cap: Times out every 3 hours
1gb<2gb left on your cap: Times out every 6 hours
2gb<3gb left on your cap: Times out every 12 hours
>3gb left on your cap: Times out every 24 hours

Interesting...

It's not a fixed limitation, ie. it's up to the ISP to decide, however, due to the way in which we are charged for usage, to reduce the possibilities of people overshooting their caps by a significant amount it's something we have had to institute.

And it is something that is extremely annoying, especially as I bought more prepaid(lol) bandwidth today as not to go over my cap and I thoroughly enjoy being disconnected while in the middle of a game, or skype call...

It's terribly sad that the few gigs that a user might exceed their cap by in the rarest instance is such a loss that the ISP institutes this kind of retarded measure. (Surely the excess can be absorbed by the big proportion of users who don't exceed their cap?)

It's also sad that accounting can only be done after a disconnect.

I'm so glad I'm on a TelkomInternet contract. Being lazy gave me the best deal after all.

Yes, it is terribly annoying to have a disconnection every 3 hours just cause your ISP is scared that you might just go over your cap … sad that soon we will be fighting not only Telkom but our own ISP’s … surely this can be avoided …

Dont know who to trust anymore.

Tell me about it. One of my mates is a reseller and I flat out refused to sign with him because I knew I'd end up calling him a thief or something else less than flattering. :) Course they deserve their coin at the end of the day.
