time to upgrade i guess...

If his psu can handle it i would suggest a 5770.a (very) quick Google, it seems that a single 5770 outperforms a 9600gt sli setup. I have one and you can buy them dirt cheap now, esquire has them at a good price IIRC. That being said, you may find the cost of all these cheap upgrades may end up costing you two thirds of a brand spanking new setup.

For example I am trying to play black ops (yes I know a new one is out) but the game keeps freezing and I have to ctrl, alt + delete and end the process and CPU usage is full.

Also can't up any detail on games as then it stutters and hangs occasionally

If you can suggest a minor upgrade that will make the pc playable go for it, otherwise I am going to have to upgrade.

You'll need a decent graphics card if you're wanting to play games. GT220 is basically just for running a desktop and movies etc.

1 x 4GB > 2 x 2GB.

ok upgraded, just downloading drivers, firefox, mse etc

got the i5 2400 + H61 + 4GB

now will save for a decent graphics card and bigger PSU

Lol, that didn't take long. Just get yourself a decent gfx card and you'll be good to go.

yep that is the plan, and a bigger screen. and of course a bigger PSU, only have a 400W now

Just hang in there till the 7xxx series becomes available. You'll either get a nice new gen card or a 6xxxx series card for a little less
