For weeks now I've had the strangest problem. Every single evening at 19h00 my DSL goes down and the line won't synch again until the next morning around 07h00. Even though my attenuation is high at around 60db it is stable during the day. So my question is this - What could cause this? I've ruled out maintenance or upgrade work.

I'm on a 2Mb line in PTA East.

If you were losing alot of speed on the line i would have definitely gone with exchange congestion (i haven't heard of it becoming so bad it could desync your line tho). What could possibly help is evaluating anything drastic that changes in the electronic footprint around you at the times your line dies. Any major electrical or electronic devices on timers maybe that are turning on? I have heard a story of a guy's line that did the same thing and turned out it was the streetlights turning on and some faulty insulation.

Have you listened to the phone line both while it is up and when it goes down? See if you can hear any noise/crackling/sputtering etc.

7pm to 7am sound suspiciously like Telkom's Callmore time that is also offered as cheap/fixed cost calls. Maybe there is crossed lines or shared copper with someone using dialup internet.

Another thing to try is to trace the phone lines around the house. See if they are connected into an alarm panel. The panel might dial out and not disconnect properly. That can be resolved with additional POTS filters.

I am in Faerie Glen and dsl has been k@k for 3 weeks. .34 - 1.3Mbps on a 4meg line!!!!!!!
PS my very very k@k trendnet routet has a setting for time out - check if yours has ths and ensure you save to always on.

Got no timers set on router and the voice comms is crystal clear. There are no major events taking place on my premises but don't know about outside i.e. street lights. I'll keep an eye open to see if I notice something. 2013 is the year that I must just shake helkom. This substandard [NO] service delivery is just getting too much for me.

Oh I have replaced my alarm dial up with radio many years ago so don't think it could be that but will check in any case.
