So apart from timing out during regular usage (browsing) every 10-20 minutes, I cannot play any online games using the 21mbps modem.

Any time my DL speed gets around the 300-400kbps mark, my connection begins to timeout. I am watching the speed together with a ping in cmd to cell.co.za, so it seems as if my connection can only handle VERY low speeds.

The ping is otherwise fairly ok most of the time if I can get a good signal.

Anyone else experiencing this? I stay in Ferndale (JHB).

Maybe I'm shooting from the hip but are you connected to a USB 2 port?
Or it's drawing too much power (for your particular USB port) when it tries to go high speed. Try another port maybe?

Yes, it's always connected to a USB 2.0 port, and I have tried all ports. Do you think it could be a problem with my motherboard?

Are you using an USB extension cable?

Some cables don't work well with the E1820 dongle.

It doesn't matter whether I use it with or without an extension cable, the speed limitation still applies. I guess the only way to test it properly will be to get another PC and try it out from the same location, as you say ajax.

I have same problem, any kind of network traffic and I get timeouts and insanely bad latency. My RSSI according to cell c dash is -71dB, which as far as I know is very very good. Been trying to get it sorted for ages and Ive tried this in multiple ports on multiple laptops/ computers. I also get tons of disconnects where data stops completely and I have to reconnect (10 minute intervals normally).

Maybe I have a faulty modem?

Here is a speedtest result:

I was doing a latency test throughout the speedtest and these are the results:
Packets: Sent = 264, Received = 149, Lost = 115 (43% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 44ms, Maximum = 3469ms, Average = 301ms

Thats 43% packets loss, with an RSSI of -71dB and a SNR of -72, -9

Tried with a different PC and results were the same. My connection just can't get above that speed, on either a 2gb/5gb sim.
