Timing Belt Snapped in Chev Spark 2007 Model

Hi, am stuck! My timing belt snapped while driving the other week. Valves were bent. Has been fixed ( new valves, head skimed ) and a full service was done. The car is going well, only prob there is now a small oil leak, looks like from the sump area. I have taken the Spark back, the mechanic tighened the sump, but still leaks. He now wants me to take it back, and says he wants to check the gear box?? It had never leaked before! Have been told to check the timing belt seal at the bottom?? Now what I know is not much, but the gear box sounds far fetched.

Its easy to know where the oil is comming from if your engine oil is a bit dirty.

If the oil that leaks out is dirty its most probably enigine oil. If it looks nice and clean its most probably gearbox oil, although I doubt it could be gearbox oil.

Have they checked the tightness of the drain plug as well? The leak could even be from the tappet cover gasket, but that's easy to check.

First clean the engine so you can see where any leaks are.

If it drips you can place some newspaper underneath the engine to help locate where it's coming from.
