So my current contract ends 31 July and am switching from my current service provider (for various reasons) to Vodacom directly. Went into one of the shops yesterday to find out the process required (paperwork etc.) and they also told me that if the handset I want is not available (stock shortages) that I cannot start the new contract until they can give me the handset. So, technically this could only happen after the end of July. I've also been told that should this be the case, I can still apply for the contract but would need to change to prepaid in order to keep my number until the new contract can actually be started (once the handset is available). I have confirmed with my current service provider that they can move me onto prepaid at the end of the contract. So my question is: are these guys giving me the full story? Is the temporary switch to prepaid not going to cause any problems when I actually start the new contract?

don't see why they would not let it go month to month.

If you have a clean credit record,
have not had any bounced debit orders in some time then i can't see why getting a new contract with VC would not be able ''to happen''

So I also have the option of doing month-to-month on my current contract (TopUp 315) but would prefer the prepaid option as I don't use the phone that much and don't want to end up paying R315 for one week's use (assuming its a week late, one month and a week etc). The credit record's very good, been with current SP for eight years without a single missed payment. AFAIK the billing is handled by my current SP rather than VC directly and was just wondering if VC had some policy about prepaid users switching to contracts.

I did this with my wife's contract a while ago. We switched her to pay-as-you go for a few months til the phone we wanted from Makro was in stock. The only difference was that we had to put money onto here phone in those 2 or 3 months instead of it being taken from my account automatically. Then we moved her back to contract once the handset she wanted was in stock.
