Hello geniuses,

I am a tinkerer but clearly a novice tinkerer. I would love some comments on equipment for cameras we have set up in our unit for security (couple of annoying breakins). The network is not performing well and I think it might be the ADSL router not handling (or perhaps overheating).

Setup is currently as follows:
ADSL modem (with wireless disabled) acting as the ADSL modem and main router for DHCP.

Camera Setup
PicoStation M2 acting in Bridge Mode connected by ethernet to the ADSL modem.

2 x Foscam Wireless HD cameras connecting to the PicoStation via Wifi N

2 x Foscam Wireless cameras connecting to the PicoStation via Wifi G

TP Link Powerline adapter connecting the ADSL router to a PC running Blue Iris software in another room (to monitor the cameras)

DynDNS and portforwarding set up so that various people can view the remote stream of the cameras

Home Network Setup
TP Link Powerline wireless adapter placed downstairs connecting all home devices (Macs, Wireless speakers, iphones etc) back to the ADSL router

I am having serious network issues with both the cameras and the home devices. I'm guessing it's because the ADSL router is not handling - network hanging (requires a couple of reboots a day of the ADSL and sometimes high latencies). Also not sure whether I should be running the PicoStation in bridge mode rather than creating a separate network for the cameras (when I did this originally I found it very difficult to do the port forwarding, effectively through 2 routers). And I'm not sure it will be better if I just replaced the ADSL and router bit.

I am thinking of replacing the TP link 8960 with a separate ADSL modem and then a router. Perhaps these:
TP 8817 http://www.dbg.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=1_55_57&products_id=736
Not sure what to use as the main router though? Or do you think the 8817 could handle the DHCP and I just get a switch?

Any thoughts most appreciated!

Thanks,

I just bought 2 dlink 930 wireless cameras. Was about R800 and it's literally plug and play. Bought mine for monitoring my nanny and son during the day but the ease of use/installation makes me want to get more for security.

I can access it remotely on the web through the dlink site.

Hope you get your setup working.
