Tips on cancelling neotel connection.

Not so lucky...I'm back to 20-40KB/s on NeoConnect Prime

I notice a few people talking about how much they still owe on their device. I've looked at my Neotel invoice and don't see this anywhere. Only thing I have is an amount of R70.17 deducted as 'NeoConnect Prime - Device Charge'.

anim8 to work out your device balance: (24 - months_at_neotel) * 70.17 * 1.14 !

But anyway, went into Telkom with my tail between my legs to beg for my line back. Telkom Somerset West where, no ARE brilliant :) !!!

They confirmed that I can have my line in 2 weeks after asking a few questions. Even suggested I take a Telkom Closer plan to save on installation charges too.

Cybersmart advised me yesterday to get my line, give them a call once its installed and they will process my DSL cirtcuit request. Use to be with them and never an issue.

So my big challenge is follow through on my Neotel cancelation on Monday too. Its been fun playing on these Neotel threads but its time I go home to Telkom.

Went back to Telkom to complet my application as I did not have my ID with me yesterday, within 2 minutes my application was complete. Woman was asking me why I'm dumping Neotel as she has had a sudden rush of ex-Neotel users in this last week. Explained my experiences.

Anyway, so 2morrow starts the mission impossible of canceling my Neotel.

I'm going to give it an extra week or two to see if Neotel offers the WiMax route as an alternative to it's customers, otherwise I will probably be joining you at Telkom

I was also going to hold out on the WiMax offering but at what cost? Rather jumping ship now as my only concern with Telkom is the pending long queues for DSL.

A lot of my friends are now applying for Telkom lines and DSL.

After 2 months of waiting, Telkom finally installed my ADSL today! Yay, just in time as Neotel sent me an email yesterday stating they were cutting me due to non payment, well thats correct I havent paid because they are sitting with a R3634.50 Credit that is due to me, amount given to me by Neotel!!!

I didn't cancel my Neotel because Telkom had warned me that it could take till May to get my adsl, well 10 days short of the May target and I have my adsl again.

Oh If Neotel has cut me do I still have to cancel???

Awesome Misch, not to rub it in but I got my SMS confirmation today that I my application went through and I will get another SMS on installation date - within the next fortnight. Knowning my local Telkom guys it will either be this Saturday/Sunday or next Saturday/Sunday.

(Its amazing how efficent my local Telkom guys are over weekends, must be the overtime :) )

Just canceled as well. Moved and since they couldn't even pick up my details in the database, they assumed I have no coverage. Customer Service lady couldn't log the cancellation request from her side (and give me a reference number) since "the system is down". So I sent the mail to [email protected] and hope they will cancel soon. Going to stop the debit order after the next one as well.

Man, I hope Telkom sorts out lines & DSL ports on our exchange soon. I am internet-less at the moment and have no desire to go back to 3G.

EDIT: Were just thinking how bloody unfair it is to have to pay one month extra (give 30 days notice) even though I can't use the damn thing. :(

ebendl, just follow up later today / tomorrow / Wednesday ... till you get your ref number. I phoned them a few minutes before my post and had no problems.

Am I doing something wrong, or are you guys all rich. I also want to switch back to Telkom with Mweb's R899 uncapped 4M plus dsl rental. Is it right that this will cost me: 1) the rest of my Neotel device price and, 2) R1011 for installation of my Telkom line plus dsl service on the line? And then I'd have to buy a new router since my old one has died. R3000 just to switch back to Telkom? Neotel is getting worse all the time, though, but bloody hell, it is a lot of money. Or does Mweb get a discount from
Telkom if I ask them to get the dsl installed for me?

You could just take out a cheaper package? Or stick with Neotel a couple of months more - everybody knew you'd need to pay the device if you cancel. At least there's no contract termination penalty or something.
But yes - I will pay my device and pay for installation of a line (or failing that - buy a 3G router if I get 3G, buy an iBurst modem upfront for close to R3k if I get iBurst or 'rent' Screamer's Wimax CPE for R2999 plus R550 installation upfront). Just make sure that your next internet service is good enough to stay with a couple of years! :(

On Telkom get a closer package to avoid R470 installation charges of the line (Their cheapest one is R20 extra - you can always cancel this after a few months. Telkom told me to do this :)

Then I'm going Cybersmart route as for R270 I get my DSL line + Modem (My old modem also died).

I'm going 384 as I do not need 4M at home. Cybersmart R199 weekend package is unshapped so makes up for it.

EDIT: I'm beginning to work from home at night again and the unreliability and bad latency of Neotel is enough for me to close my eyes and move now regardless of the extra costs to me.

Arrgggghhhh ... so my wife got a phonecall from Neotel to ask WTF is my cancelation email .... the one I promptly sent last week. Go Neotel!!!!

Said they need it b4 25th to cancel my service.

Sent from both my personal and neomail email. Will follow up later this week.

Ugh, called Neotel last week and asked to terminate. Their system was down and they couldn't log my call, but said I can send the letter so long and it would be canceled.

Phone again now and she logged my call, but if cbrunsdonza is correct, I will have to have to keep the "service" for May and June because it was to late to give 30 working days' notice? :(

EDIT: Oh yes, she also said they would collect the device, even though I had to pay the remaining periods? :(

Well I will not let them collect the device as I was paying it off. My invoice reflects it, also shows that I paid it off in full now and I still have a R700 credit with them.

I actually plan to use the device for prepaid - one day. Need it for my Dad in a few months time.

Hi all - Neotel phoned today and confirmed my cancellation date is end of May. Furthermore, he calculated outstanding device fee as R80 times 7 (now until Dec), so R560. And he confirmed that I get to keep the device. If you sell it and the new owner wants to try month-to-month contract, he / she can phone the call center and set up an account.

This is a Neotel Prime phone. Anybody want to buy one?

Damn you ebendl - your flooding the market ....

Now once you have sold yours and if someone also wants a Neotel Prime device, give me a call :( ... or I'm going to use it as door stop!
