Hi friends,

Any forumites willing to share some tips or recommendations on things to do, see, places to eat while in Clarens?

I am planning a weekend there in a couple of weeks time.

I know I will be visiting the Clarens brewery. I am interested in some adventure type sports like abseiling, white water rafting.

One day may be for relaxtion - a nice place from which to enjoy the views or a spa treatment.

Any helpful suggestions are welcome.

Horse riding at Bokpoort. The early ride is amazing in the mountains

There's more restaurants than anything else in Clarens, all of which have gotten too cocky with their prices ( more expensive than Jhb).

Goldengate is just a stones throw away.

Clarens didn't impress me. Plenty of little shops selling arty crafty crap. There's a German "restaurant" / pub, they have a nice selection of beer and nice food. In centre of town next to a place selling handmade knives is a "classy" restaurant, bookings to be made prior. They are stiff though, sit upright, talk softly, not my cup of tea.

I can recommend Clementines as an awesome place to have some food - you might have to book though - the place has always been packed when I've been there.

The Ash River Outfall just outside Clarens is a nice place to visit.

Cool suggestions guys thank you.

Wow didnt realise that restuarants in this neck of the woods would be more expensive then JHB

Train trip at Sandstone Estate Ficksburg was a great half day outing. Terrific transport museum too.

A train trip sounds great. Thanks for that.

I am planning on doing the white water rafting at the Ash river with CX Adventures. Any feedback on them?

Give them a call and ask about the status of the Ash River first since it is technically a man made river created with water piped from the Katze dam. I did it once a long time ago and it was a nice experience but we did have a strong flowing river.
