Tips to Boost your eBucks

:cry::cry:
It doesn't come through, I just checked my Jan statement and saw that my first double purchase for gas and petrol was in Jan (I did the exact same thing by buying gas and fuel and swiping inside) and I calculated my rand spend/ebucks and it didn't include my R300 fuel for that purchase. In fact, on my statement it comes through as a purchase but all the other times I just got fuel and swiped on the forecourt, it actually says FUEL Rxxx amount on my statement. I will lodge a dispute thanks to the fact I asked for the slip this time.

Im also going to avoid using this petrol station for fuel now, the manager should have just let me pay the way I wanted to instead of making me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about- especially since he prolly banks with absa :p

If they did the entire amount in one transaction, it's unlikely to come up as fuel. Check your transaction history when the transactions appear and see if they are 2 (one for the fuel amount, another for everything else). If it's one transaction it won't be picked up as fuel. If there are 2 transactions (one for R463) then that one should be picked up as fuel

@Carol35, I'm confused. Was it fuel bought for R463 and then R200 of other stuff at the convenience store?

In any event, I don't think you can take your ccard statement as the be-all and end-all. Taking January as a calendar month, my credit card statement registers zero for fuel purchases but when eBucks statement time arrived on the 9th of Feb, they correctly awarded me 15% on R2800 worth of fuel.

Sjm, yep..it appears as one transaction and not 2.

Yep, i refilled our gas bottle and filled up, paid at the till as one transaction because the manager assured me i would still get my ebucks. I did the exact same thing in January (gas bottle and fuel) and swiped as one tranaction. Today..After checking my fuel rewards against my Jan spend, i was not allocated the fuel portion of that particular transaction so wont get the fuel for Febs transaction either...didnt think much of it last month because i droped a level so assumed i got less than normal because of this. I emailed them so will see the outcome but it just occured to me i might not get my ebucks for this transaction because as you can see..my slip for fuel only says credit card and not my card number or anything...so in hindsight, it could be anyones slip. Will see.

Is it just me or did eBucks store stop giving discounts on all items in store? There's now a "discounts" tab which limits the number of products that are discounted. E.g. I bought the Bose headset at (EB23000 - 40%) about 2 months ago. Now it's just there at full price.... so... yeah. Not looking good.

Been discussed on this thread already. Was taken away on the 17th. Only selected items now have the discount.

Not really sneaky. It was a promotion to started sometime around October 2014, and it just ran for so long that we got used to having it.
They also put up notifications on the website a week ahead of the 17th to let people know it is going to end.

Promotion started end of July 2014. Still a bit sad I didn't get some Sportsmans vouchers before it ended :(

I didn't realize you could get Sportsmans Warehouse vouchers through eBucks. Oh well.

Do you guys think it is worth using my eBucks to buy some LED light bulbs from Makro? Currently my bathroom and bedroom lights use 3x40w spotlights each. I can get LED replacements for R100 each from Makro. But, how much money will I save every month if I do?

What Reward Level are you on with Ebucks?

Currently level 4, hoping to get to 5 next month but I'm not sure if I will.

I have around R750 of eBucks owing to me, so I can afford a Makro voucher big enough to replace all of my bulbs with LED bulbs. My question is, would the eBucks be better spent elsewhere?

Well since you on Level 4 you would get 30% off Makro Vouchers. For Example: In real value of a R1k Voucher you would need 7000 eBucks instead of 10k eBucks.

She can't guarantee it won't reset me to level 5 - it may, or may not ... wtf ?

Also, if I get the One account she says I cannot upgrade the account ; and has no idea how ebucks will be effected. How can the staff not know these things or not be able to give me the repercussions ?

Spotlights or downlights? Game has most LED bulbs at ~40 bucks, cheaper than Makro even with eBucks discount

do the math

assumptions
lights on for 30mins per day
cost per kw = R2

1 x 40 x hours / 1000 = kw used per day
(1 x 40 x hours / 1000) x kw rate = money spent
replacing it with led
(1 x (led power usage) x hours / 1000) x kw rate = money spent

e.g
1 x 40 x 0.5 / 1000 * 2 = R0.04 (per bulb for half an hour)
equvalent led bulb (sucking thumb here on led being 3w)
1 x 3 x 0.5 / 1000 * 2 = R0.003 (per bulb for half an hour)

your using 6 bulbs total so that gives us
current; R0.24 per half hour
led: R 0.018 per half hour

current - led
0.24 - 0.018 = 0.222 saving

Cost of led bulb = R100
cost / difference = days that you break even
6x100/.222 = 2702

So that gives us the following
Assuming you have the lights on for 30 mins each days you will then break even in roughly 2702 days or 7 years :p

Someone check my math.

This is what I am looking at:

@biena

Thanks! So... probably not worth it then? I have my lights on for probably 3 hours in the evening.

EDIT:

Okay.. From looking at my electricity bill from the 28th of November to the 8th of Jan, I used 427 units, which cost me R563. That means R1.31 per unit. According to another thread on MyBB, 1 unit = 1 kwh.

So, we now have the rate per kwh.

Given that I use the lights on average for 3 hours per day, the charge per month will be:
(30 days x 3 hours per day x 40w per bulb x 6 bulbs / 1000w in a kw) * R1.31 per kwh = R28.30 per month

If I had bulbs that used 3.5W each:
(30 days x 3 hours per day x 3.5w per bulb x 6 bulbs / 1000w in a kw) * R1.31 per kwh = R2.48 per month

Saving per month = R28.30 - R2.48 = R25.82

Months to payback invesment = R600 / R25.82 = 23.2 months, or just under 2 years.

Maybe it is worth it, considering electricity prices are rising?
