Tips to Boost your eBucks

Eish these new rules will probably mean I will drop down from level5 again.
Time to redeem as many ebucks as possible @ level 5 (with 40% off). Makro here I come.

If you have to take additional products each will have their own fees, I can just see that I will be earning less as a big chunk will be fees. They are forcing me to buy investment products. On an investment you can easily pay R300-500 p/m in fees (TER+performance fees+account fees) when you invest R50000. All so you can earn some ebucks back. All they do is charge you fees, give them back as "rewards" so they can keep you as a client, clever. I will have to reconsider if this is still worth the effort

Fixed Deposit. No fees.

If you had it before, it was last year changed from R10 000 to R15 000 (after a lot of us moaned).

But for new guys it is R50K or R75K

Aaah okay.

You would lose more to get it for "free" than you would simply investing it somewhere else I reckon.

Fixed deposit = growth less than inflation. In my book that is a pretty steep fee.

Yeah but we are talking about "enabling" Reward Level 5 here so it goes a little beyond strictly inflation as you then get 40% off and get more "free" money etc.

Just checked it's still actually about on par with inflation.

R 10 000 - R19 999 6.00%

But this was a comment related to not having costs...which you won't have with a Fixed Deposit.

Lets say a flexi fixed deposit (for 3 months) on R10 000 you earn R40 a month interest

So for R50 000, roughly R200 a month

Yup I make R50 a month or so, but then I'm also adding R500 into it every month for the other points.

Every few months or so I pull the extra out and dump it in my home loan to make it 10k again.

The 50K didn't make sense so that just sits in my home loan now.

But soon as my new motorcycle gets added back to portfolio I can probably cancel the Fixed Deposit again.

Precisely - difference between RL4 and RL5 is about R800pm for me. Investing R10k in a 3 month flexi-fixed deposit at 5.75% when I could have it in my home loan at 10.25% means a "loss" on interest of 4.5%, i.e. R37.50 per month. That's a small price to pay for the R800 gain.

so the new rules will only kick in from july?
the rules will only be announced in June?
at the beginning of next month, things will still be as they have?

Fee Saver is not a saving any longer (and certainly not free), has not been since 1 July 2015. Don't waste your time on this, even if you are a pre-1 July 2015 Fee Saver client.

Yes.

When I was on the platinum account, I had fee saver with R15k minimum and an investment account, so once fee saver fell away I started paying the monthly fee. It's true, you can have an investment account an recoup the cost but if you've already had an investment account you'll be paying an added fee.

That said, with the new scheme keeping a minimum of R50k would not be easy...

In my eyes it is still worth it to have the fee saver.

I have a flexi account just to say on 20k points related to the eB rules

What's up with the ebucks shop charging R50 odd delivery fee for a virtual voucher, they all have some arbitrary delivery fee added it seems around R5 but the Checkers virtual vouchers they add R50 delivery fee, whats this craziness!?

You probably selected the gift card instead of the virtual voucher
The delivery fee for the virtual voucher is 25 ebucks

Yeah, I bought R5000 virtual makro voucher today, fee was eB25

I got lots of kids stuff from the sale they have on, and added a physical makro voucher for R5000. So only paid 1 delivery charge for all of R50
