Hi all,

So I lost quite a bit of weight after Covid and some stressful life events (25kg) and basically where I was at 21 weight wise. While somewhat better for my back (chronic back issues) , it has created an issue where I've lost muscle-mass on my back which was helping relieve some pain. Recommendation is that I gain back the weight but I'm struggling.

Anyone have any idea's on supplements that won't destroy my stomach but should help with weight gain?
Beer isn't helping, I've tried

Worked for me:

Sorry to hear. Hope things are improving for you.

You don’t just want to gain weight, you want it to be healthy weight, so including the nutrients that are required to support your frame (such as your back , tendons, muscle, cartilage etc. )

Advice I wouldn’t normally give but that I think would help you: start taking a multivitamin, you are going to need the B12 and folic acid to increase blood volume. Eat at least 3 eggs every morning, in an omelette or whatever, and go crazy with full cream milk for the nutrients and protein you need for building tissue. Have a liter (for starters) of milk a day instead of the beer.

Eat a lot of meat, greens and potatoes with whichever fats you find tasty like butter / sour cream / olive oil. The fats are what you need to manufacture hormones and they’ll give you calories to burn for energy so you have an excess and that can go to building up.

Lastly for your back and joints a good idea is to drink a gelatinous bone broth. Even if you just pour it into a stew or curry. It’s easy to make with chicken wings or oxtails.

The milk will cause a bit of a rise in insulin but that’s a good thing because it will get nutrients into your cells.

Good advice above.
You dont need to gain weight, you need to gain muscle.
Eat a slight surplus, work on building muscle and strength

Thanks for this. Had already started with vitamins but this post was a ton more detailed.

Gym 3x a week for at least 30min, get and maintain your heart-rate above 140bpm.
Eat more protein and animal-fats: red-meat, cheeses, etc.
Supplement with whey.

Avoid carcinogenic foods.

One tablespoon of extra virgin organic olive oil right before lunch, and a tablespoon of organic virgin coconut oil after lunch. And maybe bowl of cooked oats before bed with some nut butter. You will pick up weight quickly, and your gut will also appreciate it. Woolies sells a nice coconut oil, or any health shop:

PS: Both oils also excellent natural anti-inflammatory supplements for the back pain! Start slow with teaspoons and build it up to tablespoons over 2 weeks.

What type of nut butter are we talking about here?

Now that everyone shared how to pick up weight I think you owe us the tips on how you lost 25kg.

Green tea, cinnamon, ginger, fresh lemon and a touch of honey. Drink 30 mins before bed time. NO MILK.
