In these economically trying and troubled times religion is good business and just one church, Rhema Ministries, announced an income of "slightly above R100-million" for the 2008 year.

All businesses, except churches, are forced to pay tax and it is grossly unfair that religion should be subsidized by the taxpayers, many of whom are not even believers.

The constitution guarantees equal treatment for all before the law. Freedom from taxes for churches may even be unconstitutional.
 
Fully agree. Small churches can register as NGO's etc and enjoy those benefits. Money grabbers like ray macualey must at least pay tax on their ill gotten gains.

erm....

wouldnt the R100 mill go straight to his pocket....

Just how much expenses are there to run a church....


Its scary that all you need to do is preach the gospel and force people to pay 10% and then you live in lavish luxury...

I wanna be like oom ray.....

I do not think he is forcing them. They are just silly enough to fall for the subtle (or not so subtle?) requests.

I imagine a fair amount. They have a tv channel and massive buildings and aren't shy with the decorating of them either.

would'nt they be conning all parties to provide discounted services...

Does anybody know if churches even pay for rates?

Are they billed like any other company/ organisation or are treated like a NPO with lots of grace...discounts...etc
 
They have nothing on the Moria guys.

Besides the big get togehers
They have their people ( church people )bring their tea ( and food ) and for a small fee bless it.. and people pay. Wrong thread but: and people wonder why I get sceptical about religion.

SARS is asking this with a straight face after some ministers bought hugely expensive vehicles during the recession when ordinary taxpayers suffered?
SARS also haven't done lifestyle audits on some politicians like Juliass who publicly stated his income yet obviously lives above his income. Why not?
SARS, kindly go **** yourself and shove your 'lets involve the public' eye-blind campaign where the sun don't shine.

So you mean the Zionist church has more money and is more extravagant? Or less?
 
Why dont we start a Mybb church and get ppl to send money online...

and we could send a daily email to remind everybody how much god loves you.... and how much more SARS love you !!!!!

I think they collect much more money than the Rhema dude. Living it up.. I think they do. When last have you been past the Moria Site?
