Hey guys,

Please could you help me out here. I have a 1998 328i, and am currently using Dunlop SP Sport 7000D tires. The size is 205/60 R15. Initially I had Bridgestone Potenza GIII's on the car and they were absolutly fantastic. Unfortunatly, bridgestone dont make them any more :(

The Dunlop's I have now are pretty decent in most conditions, except for one major flaw: In the wet (just normal rain, not torrential downpour), they have sweet stuffall grip. I have had a couple of close calls in them (and no, I was not speeding - took a corner at about 30km/h, and the car just went straight).

Due to the above and it being the rainy season in JHB, I want to change my tires, and would like some recommendations on what I should buy. I am currently looking at the following:

Bridgestone Turanza ER300 - 205/60 R15
Bridgestone MY-01 - 205/60 R15

Which of these 2 would be a better choice and why?

I was also offered a very nice tire:
Bridgestone Potenza Adrenaline - 205/55 R15

Now, according to http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp these tires will cause the speedo reading to be 3% over, and the tire diameter to be roughly 3% smaller, which I am willing to live with. The question I am more interested in is would insurance have any reason not to pay out if I were to put them on and be involved in an accident?

Another thing is which other manufacturers/tires would you recommend in the original size. I am willing to look at other options (just that where I went today, they only had stock of bridgestones in my size.

Thanks in advance...

Adrenaline - cause they keep my car on the road... at high speeds.

haha, yeah, xrapidx, would def go for the adrenaline if they were in my size (but alas, such do not exist). If I get confirmation from someone that insurance is not too picky about the tires, will def consider getting them. Unfortuantly, the whole insurance thing is a bit of a hindering factor at the moment...

I had the same Dunlops on my kadett 15" and had the same problem, switched over to yokohama`s 17" and never looked back they last longer and has great grip in both sunny and rainy weather I recently bought the Yokohama "A drive R1" 205/40/17" for my corsa (about R900 each) and their great tires

Your speedo is already out by up to 8% - some guys put big/smaller wheels on their cars depending on what they want to achieve - I've never heard of it affecting insurance.

+1

Though I think the overreading on speedo's is a little lower. maybe 3-4% on average

as I said, I have no problem with putting slightly lower profile tires on. I looked at the manual for the car and checked what tire sizes are allowed: 205/60 R15 and 245/40 R17 (The M3 wheels). According to the manual, no other tire sizes are allowed. Will also contact BMW regarding this. See what they have to say. And also harass insurance to see if they would mind...

At the price that I got offered for the Adrenaline's it would be a shame to turn them down... here is to hoping...

The most important thing is probably tread pattern and not brand. If it was me I would look up some tyre tests and buy the best performing tyre in the wet.
