Hi Guys/girls.

I just heard from a Tiscali (nee, mWeb) that they are offering an ADSL products scaled to the end-user's need. In other words, you tell them, I need 100GIG this month and you get it!

Priced/3GIG way below the going Telkom rate (As I understand it, to get what's called a "top-up" means you get an additional user/pass and that enabled you up to now to go over your 3gig cap.)

Just my 10c

Unless they've changed something, the booster is R250p/m. It's an additional 3gb... i suppose just like a second ADSL account.

there prices are still way to expensive

I could list 20 providers with cheaper rates, and because evryone gets them from Telkom, they are the same accounts

I'm with Tiscali/MWEB and even though they are one of the more expensive ISP's, they have after-hours support - I even phoned Sunday night at around 20h:00 and they were able to assist me. Also I think they have more features than the 'bare-bone' ISP's like Webspace, extra mailboxes etc.

Dominic, dont get me wrong, there is a need for these type of services.

However, if you assume Telkom sell accounts to ISP's for R 190 ex Vat - and then the resell that at R 250 - R 260 thats a fair mark up etc, however tiscali / mweb charging over R 300 rand is a bit much considering the high cost of line renatl etc. However you need to also know that you are paying big salaries at companies like Mweb / tisclai and thats where your extra money goes.

So there is a need, I just think its a little high.

Those who subscribe to mweb/tiscali pay the extra for the service. If something goes wrong (which touch wood it hasn't) you don't have to spend 2 hours on hold waiting for someone (who speaks broken english) to answer your calls. Tiscali help desk have been fantastic when it comes to support service. I'm happy sending an extra R50 or so per month to Tiscali because of their service.
Um and one other thing... do the Telkom directors not also get big salaries??
