You might be tempeted to go into the phone status menu, and press the update button on the SMSC box.
Don't.
It wipes your simcard and your phone of the SMSC number, which in effect makes it impossible to send SMSs.
Reformating the phone doesn't help. Re-flashing it doesn't work either. Custom ROMs won't even help you here.
There is an easy fix, however (This part took me 3 days to figure out);
Here is the SMSC list for SA
+27829119 Vodacom
+27829129 Vodacom
+27831000002 MTN (Contract)
+27831000113 MTN (PAYG)
+27841000000 CellC
Now what you do is go into the messaging app, press the menu button, open settings and put the number you need into the Messaging Centre box, press the home button, and you are all set.
This way you wont have to stress about not being able to send SMSs for a couple days like I was.
