Hi guys

Im supposed to be getting my DSL512 line in on friday, but in light of all this Nov 1 crap, should i hold off on the install? Im supposed to be getting the premium package, but have to sign a 24month contract. Am i setting myself up for a nightmare??

Ye I would hold to see what the 1st of Nov brings

I'd hold off if I was you. Also, word of advice do not get into any contracts with Telkom. Most of the time it's a contract for the router where you can buy a cheaper and non-local brand that is better than the local ermmm... (word here). Netgears, LinkSys, Datalink, etc.... are great options.

You don't want to be stuck in a 24 month contract with them if the broadband market opens up. With coming SNO, hopefully unbundling of local loop, etc, etc.

Edit: Also, don't go with TelkomInternet as your ISP. The other ISPs offer cheaper services with better service levels than Telkom could only dream of.

dont do it - stay away from the light!!!!!

When you do get it dont get into a contract. ADSL modems are much cheaper than they say, and by getting you internet a month at a time, you can always get the best deal for the month.

Thanks for your responses. Is ADSL the way to go tho? Or should i look at my wireless, iburst etc??? Are they being affected at all by Nov 1? Ive been waiting for my DSL line for months now, im just so dispondent!!!

Nope i don't think the wireless are getting shafted like ADSL... hold off for a month or 2 after nov to see how things pan out... But if u a light user and think u will use less than 3 gigs... well then its up to u... if not don't even think about ADSL.

From 1 Nov the only ADSL worth using is the 192 package 3G as this gives 24/7 connection for e-mails and limited browsing. Anything else is just not worth it anymore until something substantially change. The 384 package gives best price/performace ratio. Do not sign contract. Take monthly service. Only disadvantageis cost of modem but You will regret that small saving when you contract to Telkom and need to change the service for any valid reason in future. Read this forum by searching for contract and see for Yourself

Get adsl, but do not sign any 24 month contracts.
Other ISPs are going to offer some relief for this cap, and unless you plan to download stacks and stacks of data I can not see you having a problem.

I also note that Government wants to ban caps.

I find it interesting that when phoning telkom, they allways ask.. "Contract users or non contract"

I tried couple of times, and damn they work alot faster when you say, "Contact user" until they bring up your profile and see its "non contract"

bahaha

well dont get adsl

get iburst or sentech or isdn for really slow connections that cost more

dude get adsl the 5 gig package wont be so bad

trust it might be expensive but its worth it

56k sucks
iburst sucks
isdn is expensive

adsl is expensive but its good

but like they say dont sign a contract and buy your own modem

I agree. ADSL is great! I have the 1024 connection, and it works like a dream!
