Why can't the local only accounts offer international surfing at dial up connections?

The local only accounts are worth **** as far as I am concerned.

Then you obviously don't know how to use them.
There is plenty of local only file sharing going on.

To expand on this question....

Why can't the ISP's sell us a 3Gig Int + 30Gig Local account which actually does routing between the two?

I'd be the first one to buy.....

Come on OpenWeb...here's a public challange seeing as everyone is raving about you and your service, show the rest how it's done!!!!!

SAIX and IS control that part so I think the ISP's will not be able to do that till SAIX/IS update there coding on the NAS servers. :(

Why don't you just use Route Sentry or if you're using Linux set up two connections and do static routing.

OR......the ISP's can put more pressure on the bodies that be so that I don't have to HACK my router/pc or use other software to do what they should be providing!!!

Further more we could lay a complaint agaisnt MOST ISP's, Telkom and IS about false advertising on their websites to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and ICASA.

Most sell their bandwidth as SEPERATE International and Local products...International to me means INTERNATIONAL...not use it for local and international and we'll charge you international rates.

Surely it must be illegal to bill a consumer one price for Local cap and then to repackage the cap and sell it as "International" and bill us and escalated price for Local cap as well?? Just because I have the option of using the international cap and choose to use it for local viewing doensn't make the pricing right!!

Has this been brought to ICASA's attention? How can Telkom and the ISP's have the 2 price ranges for the same product?

And I know how some are going counter this argument but I think it holds weight!! With "International" cap I have the choice to ONLY browse local websites and use up my entire "International" cap on viewing local content. How can that then be sold as international bandwidth and i get charged the higher rate for only viewing local content??? Surely that could not have passed the pricing regulation?

It's like MTN charging you international call rates for local calls.

Well...my email to both organisations complaining about this is on it's way.

There is plenty of info about how the intl/local type accounts work.
It's not false advertising and you don't have a foot to stand on legally because technically you can get what is advertised.
You can download 3GB from over international servers and then download 30GB from local sites if you do it in that order so it's not false advertising.

The ISPs are unable to do the custom routing for us because they are only resellers.
IS and SAIX are the one's who are in control of the authentication and network - not the ISPs.

OpenWeb does this. I think it is called OpenBrowse.

http://www.openweb.co.za
You're absolutely correct! Our OpenBrowse product allows a 192k international connection for browsing purposes after cap. This is a best-effort service as there are a number of factors which are out of our control and hinder our ability to always provide 192k.

Barf, why not call it a "beta" service too while you're at it. :p

hehehe :p

Edit: Actually, OpenBrowse was one of our pioneer products and has hundreds of users every hour. It's hardly "beta" :)

I SO don't agree with you!!!! My Axxess account doesn't give me ANY local cap after my international is used up....FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!!!! My point stands..

Just cause the ISP is a reseller doesn't mean a finger can't be pointed at them! If a product is misleading they should not advocate it! If I buy stolen goods unknowingly do you think the law is going to side by me cause I didn't know or wasn't sure it was stolen?!?!

My ISP's are my point of contact, so the buck starts and ends with them as far as me the customer goes. If I buy a campmaster chair at Game and it's problematic or not up to the specification they advertised you don't find me running to CampMaster themselves to sort it out.....I go back to Game....point made!
