Toaster Bags

It seems like way too much work when even if you don't have a sandwich press you can just do it in a pan. Not to mention the filling falling out the bottom.

I dont have a pan at work and if I make them in the morning they are cold and soggy by the time I want to eat them. So this seems like an easy way to make fresh toasties at work for lunch.

You could just pick up a sandwich press from clicks for a couple hundred rand and keep that at work. Just pop in your untoasted toastie and you're good to go. :)

I dont want to take an additional appliance to work. Our kitchen area is tiny.... but Ill keep that in mind if the bags dont work out.

I suppose you could make the sandwiches and put them in bags at home then just pop them in at work.

I used mine once. The sandwich was so delicious that I ate the bag... Or was it such a waste of time I threw the bag out?

If you have a wide enough toaster - then it is great. I have a couple of them.

Easy to make toasted cheese and tomatoe - even with something "wet" like sandwhich spread. I've never had stuff fall out of the bottom. Key is to use a low setting - but for a long time - otherwise the outside gets of the bread gets really toasted / burnt and inside it is barely warm.

Go for it .. worst case - you spend the equivalent of a steers burger - best case - you have a new best toy.

Got some from my sister...forgot about them and stole the (unused) snackwich machine from my parents place.

My toaster is very wide and the sandwich started to bend. Ended up putting the toaster on its side, but then one side cooks faster than the other and there was cheese everywhere.

Buy a flat sandwich press IMO. Plus those bags aren't cheap and are a hack to keep clean.

They work relatively well. Only problem is that the stuff does sink to the side it's laying on. Other than that if your toaster is wide enough to take two pieces of bread easily then I'll work well.

Lay your toaster on its side...;)

Sandwich presses are fantastic. I use them to cook more than just sandwiches. They cook veggies well. I sometimes chuck a heap of veg on them while I make up the sandwich then chuck the veg in the sandwich and put on the press.

I have never used one of the sandwich bags though...

Those things are lethal. Heating releases BPA's in the plastic and what you end up with is endocrine disruption every single time you have a sarmie. If you're a man your ostrogen levels will skyrocket and the enuchs of old would be extremely envious of you. It's probably more toxic for a kid. Sorry I can't back up my findings but a whizz around google will paint the picture.
Long term health problems are not yet fully disclosed but like anything made in china (which these presumably are?) heated/frozen non BPA free Plastics are going to have some negative health implications.

See one post above yours :p Also when will we be seeing your now mythical hydroponic setup...? :D

Haha. Well the thing freezes up over winter so it's bare at the moment. I can post pics of the setup though.

They're "imminent"...:D

Yes, I thought of that straight away. I saw a lady in England at a B&B doing that and realised it works well. Just make sure the cheese is thin, or it might catch fire
