Some parents steer away from tablets, some balance them with other activities, and others let their toddlers use them much of the time...

I believe screens are not good for toddlers and children, but that there is no doubt they are a vital aspect of the modern world.

We don't want others to get ahead with tech skills, but we also don't want our children's creativity and lack of interaction with the non-screen world turning them into braindead zombies (a common theme these days).

How do you feel about it?

How do your toddlers use tablets?

At what age were they introduced?

Which tablets are the best to go for, and which apps?

Kids should play with friends and with balls, ropes, trampoline etc etc.
Tablets and phones very limited(maybe an hour a day) only after 3 years old.
Parents give small kids phones, tablets or let them watch tv the whole day as to not do parenting and it keeps the kids busy easily without the parents having to look after them and entertain them. Its a recipe for having kids that will be gamers and nor being active and do sports in schools one day.

Google Family link is a god send.. allows you to place restrictions on any apps, screen time and even age based restrictions for content on YouTube kids..

Screen time limited to a hour a day..

I opted for the cheaper Chinese tablets, currently using blackview tab 60 for my kids.. The biggest thing to look for spec wise is the RAM.. 4GB RAM is minimum and needs to be actual RAM, not this boosted virtual RAM that's a thing these days..

Our youngest is nearly a year old and besides some Blippi or Ms Rachel when we are nebulising or his older brother is watching TV he never see's a screen. Our eldest will be 5 in August and he watches some TV sometimes when he is eating a meal but we restrict what he watches and for how long. He watches the same shows on an iPad when we are on long trips in the car, an hour or more, otherwise 'plays' using the Lingo app for kids every now and then. He is more often than not playing with Lego or building with cushions or pillows or in his construction site getting absolutely filthy and wrecking any and all construction vehicles he has including dinosaurs.

In my opinion, you can't avoid screen time these days so it is best to try and manage it, sometimes like when little ones are sick or you have to get something urgent done, they watch too much, other times when the sun is out ad the weather is good they watch nothing. You'll get it right, you'll get it wrong, such is life...

Let my kid use tech from a very early age. There are a ton of awesome shows on Youtube kids that imo stimulate the mind.

She has a very active day at daycare, still has an imagination, still does normal kid stuff.

Her favourite show at the moment is numberblocks and she sings in numbers now.

Farrrrrrr better than what I did as a kid watching ****ing Verimark ads.

if you think a tablet or phone is going to get your kid ahead with tech... I've got a bridge to sell you ;-).
Gen Z and Gen Alpha are worse with tech then the Boomer generation. Just having a tablet or phone doesn't give you tech skills, this assumption has lead the current generation of kids and young adults sitting blindly looking at a printer going what does it mean the paper is jammed? They're even too scared to unplug things and try plugging them back in.
But back on topic, honestly do which ever feels right for you, there is no clear and concise answer as each person and child is different, some will be fine with a few hours on a tablet some will not be. It's all personal.
