The Tokai Fibre team are proud to announce the selection of the joint venture between Link Africa and Frogfoot as their preferred service provider, they will be rolling out a truly open access fibre network for Tokai, allowing multiple Internet service providers (ISPs), mobile and fixed telecoms, as well as content providers to use their open access platform providing the best possible services and products to Tokai residents.
Now many of you that have been following developments in neighbouring Constantia will know that the City of Cape Town wanted a public participation process first before granting wayleaves to for Link Africa to make use of the storm water and sewerage systems. Link Africa should be able to resume work in Constantia fairly soon now that public participation process has been completed (8 February 2016).
Link Africa/Frogfoot have committed to deploy fibre infrastructure simultaneously with the deployment in Constantia so there won't be a long delay in Tokai getting fibre infrastructure installed. Residents will see an increased activity from Link Africa/Frogfoot personnel in the coming months in and around Tokai.
The primary reason for choosing Link Africa/Frogfoot is that they use award winning FOCUS technology that makes use of the existing storm water and sewerage systems, not only does this save a lot of time but it's less intrusive and disruptive.
More information regarding the Tokai fibre web portal and details on how to apply for various fibre packages from a wide range of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will be communicated in the coming weeks.
We also have Link Africa engaging with the mobile network providers to connect fibre optics to mobile base stations to be deployed in the suburb that will greatly improve the mobile signal strength, something Tokai desperately needs.
Since we launched the Tokai Fibre campaign last November, the interested residents list has certainly grown to a substantial level where we could confidently meet with potential fibre providers and we would like to thank you for making it easier to get fibre providers to sit up and take notice.
It seems that the hype quickly spread and Telkom put Tokai on the fibre roll out map about 2 months ago.
We as the Tokai Fibre task team have not engaged with Telkom in the ongoing discussions with providers of getting fibre installed in Tokai. It recently came to our knowledge that Telkom are planning a fibre installation for the suburb of Tokai and thus we have managed to get contact details of the management team should there be any queries from residents.
That being said, residents will see increased activity in the neighbourhood from Telkom and Telkom subcontractors wishing to gain access to a Telkom pole to install a Fibre box as part of their preparatory work.
Please remember ask for identification, if you are unsure take the name and pass that name back to the Tokai Fibre team who will take it up with Telkom to verify authenticity.
In the near future Tokai will have two active fibre networks, one will be the open access Link Africa/Frogfoot network (which we have worked on securing) and the other will be Telkom.
We feel this is the ideal model as it will bring out the best from both providers in terms of competitive pricing and service delivery.
This only spells good news for the residents of Tokai.
