Toll gates for Cape during World Cup

Cape Town residents and people working in the CBD will need to budget for extra transportation costs, as temporary toll gates will allegedly be erected at all roads leading into the CBD and Green Point area.

According to city officials, the roadblock-style toll gates will be set up two weeks prior to the start of the World Cup to ensure that any technical difficulties are smoothed over before the big event.

The toll gates will remain up for the duration of the event.

The fee for passing through the toll gates is R12.50 per vehicle and an additional parking permit is required for vehicles parking within the restricted area. The parking permit will cost R450 and is valid for 60 days.

For people working within the CBD and Green Point area, a working permit will be made available for R600. This permit is also valid for 60 days and will include all tollgates fees.

City officials were not available for comment on the situation, but have said that a detailed press release will be issued next week.

Please tell me this is another 01/04 gag - these days you just can't be sure.

It's a gag only because the city would spend the equivilent on what they spent on building the stadium for having to replace the tollgates on a daily basis thanks to the Taxi Assocations and their Drive Thru affiliates.
