As mentioned in another thread, weighing up the cost differences between going to collect a parcel in DBN and courier up here.

I reckon accommodation is R1,000 (2 people, 1 night) and petrol R1,500 - what are the tolls like?

How big is the parcel? I doubt you can do it cheaper than these guys though. Unless you want to go to DBN anyway.

They were the couriers I chose

110cm x 40cm x 30cm 24.2KG QTY : 2

Insurance Added :

OVN Next Business Day R 4027.62
ECO 2-3 Business Days R 2492.04
AIR 2 Business Days R 2929.80

So the cheapest option is R2,500.00 and travelling to DBN is under R3,000.00. They're very close and although I don't want to go to Durban, at a few hundred extra I may as well have a few drinks in Umhlanga while there!

Yeah, ok the insurance also adds a bit. Enjoy the trip then :)

Damn. Had no idea courier could be so expensive. Cheapest option would be to ask family/friends on Facebook if they're coming to JHB. Riskiest option would be to ask someone on myBB to bring it here for you :D

Haha. When do you need it by? Maybe making a trip down next month. :)

If it went through a MyBB, I'd still need to insure ;)

Will try another courier

So it's 2 longish boxes?
If you strap them together and send it off as one it will significantly reduce the cost.
50kg is a bag of cement so not excessively heavy.

Damn but their pricing is good for a 10kg computer! Is the pricing on the quote page accurate - you don't need to open an account with a deposit or anything?

Nope, that quote is accurate. I have used them a few times. It is only if your size/weight is significantly off that they will charge you more. I have also phoned them in the past to confirm. They use The Courier Guy, probably the best courier I have used.

Ah, that explains it. I was looking at The Courier Guy yesterday but they want you to open an account with a R1000+ deposit - eventually went with Postnet depot to depot.

Needless to say I've bookmarked xoc for future reference.

Do it in a day - save the 1k

Just take more shorter rest breaks, you are going with 2 drivers right

Or spend the extra R1k that he thinks he will.. Enjoy a night on the beach and then drive back......

That's kinda what I'm thinking at this point

Dude, if its R500 more than just couriering the speakers up from Durbs.. I'd come and spend the night.. get a bit of relaxation out of the deal, and get shytefaced at Durbs alcohol prices.

Yup.

Exactly what I'm thinking ;)

Just planned the trip actually. I'm still waiting for my own insurance to get back to me to decide finally
