Update: Ubisoft has officially confirmed a sequel to The Division, aptly titled The Division 2. In a livestream, the company revealed the game and confirmed it's being developed by the same primary studios as the first entry, including Massive Entertainment, Red Storm, and Ubisoft Reflections. You'll be able to transfer some progress from the original game to Division 2, though how that will work is not yet clear. No more details have been discussed; the company says a full reveal is coming at E3 2018. We'll report back as more details are shared. The original story follows.

Two years to the day after the first game was released, Ubisoft appears prepared to announce The Division 2. Details on the game are scant at this point, but we do know it's apparently in development at the same studio as the first game, Massive Entertainment.

News of the game first leaked through stock website 4-Traders, which published a blog post from creative director Julian Gerighty. While seemingly dubious on its own, an image showing The Division 2's logo has been discovered on Ubisoft's own website.

It's not a huge surprise that Ubisoft would decide to continue with The Division. Although the original was criticized by many at launch, Ubisoft and Massive have diligently worked to address complaints in the two ensuing years. The 1.8 update released this past December, in particular, was lauded as a highlight for its sweeping improvements--all of which came for free. The game has also received a pair of paid DLC expansions.

Alongside news of a sequel, Ubisoft has also announced that support is not ending for the first game. New global events are on the way as part of future title updates, as is an Xbox One X patch to provide 4K support--that's coming in April. In June, the game will also receive something called Crests, which are achievements that will unlock rewards in The Division 2.

There's no word on platforms or other details yet, but it seems like a safe assumption that The Division 2 will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We'll report back as more information is shared.

Interesting.

Still waiting for the movie . . .

Was following this on yesterday's State of the Game. Very stoked and can't wait.

Pity it's still going to be a few years away, with only two more content patches planned for the current game...

There's been speculation that it could be either London, or it may have spread to other parts of the US.

But that's probably fan-driven, although not entirely impossible...

I'll apologise first and say I'm blocked at work, so no links....

Per absolute chance, I decided to actually see what MS had to say in their press conference yesterday evening....
To my surprise, I joined the stream in the middle of what looked like 'gameplay' of something that seemed interesting. My first thought was that they had made some form of co-op in Uncharted... also thinking "I wish that game came to PC, it actually looks pretty decent!"

About 5 seconds later, I pay a bit more attention, and see what looks like VERY familiar health bars.... the terrible scripted 'acting' then also makes sense. This is actually The Division 2. When I realised that, I was actually quite saddened. Strange considering my initial feeling above right? I think I just expected something different... or more... I'm not sure really. Maybe it's just that there's no snow :p

I've had some time to think about it, and while I'm not SUPER hyped (feel that's a good thing these days), I am still going to keep my eyes on it. I'll probably also buy it. But I'm anxiously awaiting more to see if it settles me.

Not sure how I feel about this.

As a solo player, the dark zone could actually be quite fun stalking around sniping unsuspecting players. (Sometimes even taking out a small group solo) but this was in the first few months of the game.

It got stale quick and the story very meh. (did not even finish the single player part)

I like the premise of the division and I like the Tom Clancy franchise.
I was very excited for the first Division and although I had fun while playing, it did not have staying power for me.
I moved on after about 60 hours or so.
This will be a wait and see.

I thought it looked awesome except for the crappy scripted gameplay. Hate when companies do that.

Already registered for the beta...

After my last message I've been trying to find firewall friendly sites to see what info was taken from the gameplay....
I really need to watch the whole video.

And just like that I realised I actually (possibly sub-consciously) enjoyed what I saw :D

Still cautious though. I need to sign up for the beta and hope I get lucky.

Yesterday just for fun I played the game, the DZ is all but dead! Just a few player here and there. One even went rogue but I'm sure that just because he was bored!

There's still a decent amount of players on Xbox.

I suspect everyone is waiting for the sequel though.

Since 1.8 and the introduction of classified gear, there's been a lot of cheese, cheating and lack of build diversity. This caused a lot of people to leave. The game was in a great place in 1.7...

I think there will be a small resurgence as they introduce the shields, or whatever the unlocks are that will carry across to The Div 2.

I'm probably going to play a bit - to try and get some of them - but mostly because I love that game.... it just needed more.

So before this thread fades into obscurity again, I thought I'd bring it back :o

What are your thoughts on some of the new gearing mechanics?
Brands - Think this is a great move. With speculation that normal sets are returning, it will depend on the bonus 'strength' they add to a build.

Sig Weapons - This was essential in my mind. Having an ultimate ability fits in the RPG world, but I don't think the way they did it in TD1 was good for the game.

Removal of some main stats - This intrigued me. A lot of a build (albeit only a handful of them with classified sets) could be defined by the spread in stats you'd need to make it work optimally. Sometimes you'd need to sacrifice on one front to benefit on another. Will we still be able to spec into a Glass Cannon build? Or a purely skill based build?

Talents - Building on main stats, talent requirements are done differently in TD2 as well. Hopefully there are fewer useless ones, but you will generally be aiming for gear stat bonuses as opposed to main stat requirements.

Removal of Medkits - Well.... traditional medkits in that sense. You now need to stand still for about 3 seconds while you replace your armour plate, which also appears to be another piece of gear. It refills both any missing health as well as fully restoring your armour. I agree with the sentiment that it's great from a PvP perspective, but hope that feeling rings true with me in PvE as well. I'm looking at you LMB shotgunners.............

Weapon Mods - These are now tiered unlocks as opposed to loot drops. They also come with both positive and negative attributes. I don't really like this... I understand it's meant to make you think more about your build, but some of drawbacks outweigh the buff you'd get IMO. Listening to a couple peoples takes on it, in its current state, there are already obvious BIS choices.

Overall I'm happy with the changes coming. I'm unsure of how a couple things will affect the long-term diversity or the need to keep playing to grind the best piece of gear, but I'm happy so far.
