yes the higher garmin models do have that functionality...the 200 doesn't though.
but i have had only joy with my 200, and only once did it send me on a wild goose chase, but this was partly my fault, as i switched the u-turn function off, and it took me through a squatter camp, where as you can imagin, most of the "roads" now has shacks/houses built on them, so it was a pretty scary drive

I would my garmin to tell me every road i passed, would drive me freakin mad hahah, it talks to much as it is.

A TomTom ONE has the same functionality as higher specced (and more expensive) Garmin models.
Plus, as another poster said, if you can Google a bit (or browse a single forum - not THIS forum), you can find 'unauthorised' map-updates and tons of other cool things for a TomTom, including another OS or add-on features from other, higher-specced, TomTom devices.
The TomTom HOME software continuously updates your map with corrections a POI's from other TomTom users and you can also submit your own - even speed cameras you come across that aren't present on the map.

I'm currently playing with a TomTom GO720 and am positively impressed by the functionality and ease of operation - definitely ahead of the Garmin 7xx series. Using my Latest Map Guarantee is proving to be a challenge though - still trying to sort it out via TT customer service.
Does anybody have a TT unit with the latest Southern African maps (currently Ver 7.30). I would like to see a screenshot of street mapping for Marloth Park and/or Komatipoort - simply to assess how up to date the map is, and if I do not manage to sort out the free update via TT to determine if it is worth R800 to buy the new map.

Just got the wife a TomTom XL on Saturday (R2K).
The only reason for not going Garmin is that her brother has a TomTom (for about 2yrs now) and she can bug him for advice. But my brother in-law (her sisters husband) bought the Garmin 2 mths ago.
From what I can remember there seems to be no difference in how to map your route or find points of interest between the 2.
Big bonus is that both are in Afrikaans. Even though I'm English, the Afrikaans is easier to understand than that UK Engrish they use - different terminology on our roads.
And how good is the TT: Well my wife had to drive to The Bay, Camps Bay this evening from Somerset West. The weather is awful by the way. She arrived there in 1hr without any issues.
It also even had points of interest which matter to me like Oak Valley in Grabouw.
Oh, and I got a chance to play with a demo GPS 4 weeks back that had 8 maps installed (Windows CE GPS device). The GARMIN & TT software where superior to the others. Some maps where only base maps and not the full ones.
The only plus on TT now are the free updates (they where R170 last year).

I've got both, I like the TomTom better...
