Ever had one of these? I removed one last night. Damn these things stink. I had no idea what it was at first but a quick google search revealed all. I'm guessing mine was a byproduct of my recent flu.

Anyway, if you're ever wondering what that little white lump at the back of your throat is, it's a tonsil stone. Don't forget to smell it after removal :D

Thanks for sharing though, I never knew they had a name. I haven't had one since I had my braces out which was about 16 years ago.

I get them occasionally.. always very happy when they're out, rather than in!

i hate Wikipedia sometimes.

Why is it still wet?

I usually get them with the onset of flu. Usually a good helping of viral choice sorts everything out though. And yeah, they do stink.

Lol! They're common , happens quite often in smokers and people with chronic tonsillitis. It usually lodges between the tonsillar folds. If you take a look at your throat and apply some pressure on the side of each tonsil you may find one of these "stones".

If you still have your tonsils then you most probably have them. It also depends how wide the tonsil's opening is as to the frequency. It's very simple to remove them, simply use a larger than normal sized paperclip, unfold it so that you're left with a Q tip at the end with a long straight reach. Insert Q tip into tonsil and gently pull towards you so you open the tonsil. While doing this, flex your throat/uvula/tonsils so you can open your tonsil wider.

Enjoy. ;)

....but very dangerous when not treated correctly, i had tosilitis attack after 18 years, i was diagnos with reactive arthiritis, for which i get chronic meds and every 6 months doctor check ups. one of my family members had it removed some of it somehow got into her blood stream and damage 2 hart valves. so be carefull who is taking it out.

Pardon me? Could you please elaborate?

Chronic tonsololiths should probably be treated properly but have nothing to do with tonsillitis. You don't want to go poking too deep. Most of them come to within mm's of the surface though. Works for me and I wake up feeling better with a normal taste in my mouth. I reckon it's safe. Fun too. :p

My tonsils were so big that they restricted airflow at night enough to turn my blood into syrup(over production of red blood cells to compensate) and I never had these things!? You people really need to learn to gargle or something
