i actually never thought this was even possible. in fact the thought never even crossed my mind until i took my daughter to the doctor because she was sick with a sore throat and temperature and other things. so the doctor says to me she needs to have her tonsils removed? :wtf: i tell him she had her tonsils taken out when she was 2 years old..

he tells me to lo0ok in her throat, and lo and behold there are a set of tonils at the back right where the anatomy supposed to sit? now she is getting tonsilitis again over and over. this ain't funny. we will have to go thru another op to have her tonsils removed again.

I have heard of similar before. Apparently one of 2 things, supposedly, happened....

Either only partially removed the first time round
Or
The person is unfortunate, and they did regrow

Note: I have not experiened this, have only heard it, so do not know how true above is....

From a Google search, it looks like this can happen, which is surprising to me.

Same. Mine at 38. Including a fun filled evening in the ER spitting up blood. Most unpleasant experience ever - and I've had a kidney stone.
Only afterwards did the ENT tell me it could grow back.

I have to ask. Is there something wrong with the shift button on your keyboard Celine?

Mine was removed when I was about 5 years old. Then again at age 7. Again at age 10. Then, when I was about 22, I had my wisdom teeth removed. The surgeon told me post opp that he removed them again. Seems like they grow back like weeds if not completely removed.:D

They give you problems - get them taken out. It only gets worse. But set aside at least two weeks for some severe discomfort, where they give you pretty strong pain medication. That stuff was something else. A few days there are a complete blank.
And tip - buy a humidifier.

Just use an ice-cream scoop and remove them yourself.
No fear of anaesthesia.
No fear of not waking up.
No fear of strangers looking and making funny comments while you are under.

Just a pit of pain, but then again what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Celine - This happened to me as well. Had them out when I was five and at around 30 the ENT told me that the one had grown back. Apparently it's not that they really grow back, but when they're removed the first time, there is a bit of tonsil left behind. Very painful op when you're older.

My daughter had her tonsils taken out last year. But she's started getting the same kinds of sore throats that she got before. Is it possible that her tonsils are growing back?
- Pearl

It is possible for tonsils to partially grow back. During a tonsillectomy, most of the tonsils are removed. However, some tissue often remains, so tonsils can occasionally regenerate — although they probably won't grow back completely or to their original size.

If you're worried that your daughter's tonsils are growing back, talk to your doctor. But just because she still gets sore throats doesn't necessarily mean that her tonsils are growing back. Tonsillectomies may result in fewer throat infections, but kids can still get some. Sore throats can also be caused by other things, like colds, allergies, and dry air.

http://kidshealth.org/parent/question/general/tonsils_again.html

So basically unless it was a bad job and some of the tissue was left they dont grow back. If it was a bad job and some tissue is left, a bit of the tonsil can regenerate.

I'm another one who has had their tonsil grow back. I had mine removed when I was 2, and when I was 15 I had a bad case of tick bite fever and tonsillitis all rolled into one.

Never ever ever want to relive those weeks ever again! I still have one tonsil though...haven't had the one that grew back snipped again, as it hasn't bothered me for the last 7 or so years (touch wood)

:wtf: I would seriously *** myself if I ever have to go through that pain ever again. :erm:

I had tonsillitis when I was 20. It was two weeks of hell but the doctor didn't think surgery was necessary so I still have my tonsils.

They haven't bothered me since.

Still have my wisdom teeth too
