Too Human fails to impress, largely because the developers didn’t approach it practically enough.

Taking an old idea and making it new is normally a good thing, but sometimes things go a little wrong in the execution.

Too Human, for example, takes the idea of Norse Mythology and infuses it with a strong cyber-punk feel. Instead of being otherwordly, all powerful creatures, the Norse Gods represented in this futuristic fantasy title are powerful humans working for Aesir Corporation (Aesir traditionally being the collective name for the Norse pantheon.)

The game is presented as a third person action adventure, with the player taking control of Odin’s favoured son, Baldir. The player moves through some very big, very bleak environments in search of revenge and justice, beating off hordes of enemies to progress through the game.

Too Human would have been a great title, except for a few pretty important factors.

The first is an annoying control issue. Attacking has been mapped to the right analog stick, which is traditionally the camera controller in other games.

This means the camera does its own thing, which is irritating.

Next, the action is extremely repetitive, with the same enemies appearing time and again. Lastly, should the player’s character die, an overly long, non-skippable cinematic is played.

And these are just the major grievances… Too Human fails to impress, largely because the developers didn’t approach it practically enough.
