Top broadband speed tests in South Africa

The latest MyBroadband speed test results reveal which broadband services in South Africa recorded the best results

That's not a good indication at all really, I get between 200 and 500Mbps down at all other speedtest servers in SA, but on the mybb one max I get is 70Mbps. I take it the mybb speedtest servers only have 100Mbps connection?

How much data does a speedtest use when you're doing 80 Mbps? Must chow through your bundle quickly...

Depends on the speed of the connection, faster connection, bigger the data usage will be:

How speedtest works:
Your computer downloads small binary files from the web server to the client, and we measure that download to estimate the connection speed.
Based off this result, we choose how much data to download for the real test. Our goal is to pick the right amount of data that you can download in 10 seconds, ensuring we get enough for an accurate result, but not take too long.

I used to download and host speedtest mini, and that package included a 1Mb, 10Mb and 100Mb (or maybe 50Mb, can't remember) file for the tests. (You host that on a internal server to check internal network speeds)

On an 80 Mbps connection you download about 10 MB a second, so in 10 seconds that's 100 MB. Hope the people that have such a fast connection don't try the speedtest too often to show off
