Because the codecs used to compress the stream will inevitably cause image degradation, and then ripping it and re-encoding compounds the effect. The pixel count will be 2160p but detail will still be lost. Not that most people would notice. On a larger display like his though, you probably would.

He has a Hisense. Even a 43 inch Hisense looks like crap.
 
Just wait until 1 November. Get a decent 4K version if you really liked the movie and want a copy.

The Apple TV version is out tomorrow.

Then you can have 4K and Dolby Atmos.

You should have a look at Tiny Worlds on Apple TV+.

You’ll get a whole new perception of quality on streaming codecs.

Granted it’s not the case for everything, but then the same can be said for Blu-ray which more often than not can be quite terrible.

A codec does not magically fix a bad source.
 
What? AppleTV offers a 4K bitrate which tops out at around 40mbps. Netflix probably around 17mbps. I almost think Sony offer up to 80mbps for certain TVs? All this vs a 4K Blu-Ray disc running up to 128mbps.

Apple TV does peak beyond 80Mb but depends on the source really.

And Dolby Vision + Atmos at that.

On the contrary I have not seen any Blu-ray remux ever go over a 100.

Sure it’s possible for the technology, doesn’t mean it’s actually ever done.

I’ve also seen some shocking Blu-rays.

Overall it’s generally not worth it.

My only gripe with Apple TV is that you can’t download it up front and rely on the internet which isn’t always at full tilt.

Netflix is however only 15Mb or so and yea not the greatest.

I’ll make a special effort to check what the actual on disc bit rate for Maverick is once it’s launched, I bet it’s no more than 80.

Irrelevant nitty gritty at the end of the day. Streaming from any online source vs the Blu-Ray disc cannot actually be compared. You are losing quality in both audio and video in streaming. The only question is how much. Sound and video just remains superior on disc.

Once every 10 or so years comes a movie you do not waste time on online streaming. This one, if you like flying, is it.

November it will be for me.

Then the argument may as well be you don’t watch it at home but can only ever appreciate it in the cinema.

Which is bollocks of course, for various reasons.

Absolutely no argument at all.

Fact is, I currently have the best "4k" version and will look at the Apple release too. I can clearly see on my TV that this is not full 4K both streaming or not.

The only thing you seem to want to argue with is whether an Apple version will be better than a full 4K Blu-Ray disc. In my opinion and from my experience, there is absolutely no comparison between the two. The 4K Blu-Ray disc is the real deal.

I’m more arguing the case of diminishing returns on what is ultimately the archaic concept of things on physical media.

“Absolutely no comparison” being quite the stretch, when I suspect a bit of blind testing would catch out most.
