Techcrunch recently held their startup seminar featuring the top new ideas to grace the globe. Here are some of the biggest head-turning startups:

Redbeacon won the $50 000 grand prize as the judges considered their new company to be heading in the most inspiring and profitable direction. Redbeacon is a new service that aims to help consumers find local service providers such as plumbers, bakers, contractors etc. They have cleverly incorporated local review services like Yelp to help clear the clutter and provide the best services available to those in need.

Threadsy is the world’s first integrated communication client. It combines email, Facebook, Twitter, instant messaging, and the broader social web into ‘a brand new experience.’ Threadsy groups all of your email and social network messages into a single inbox and all of your Facebook news feed and tweets into a single stream. Threadsy is free to use and works with your existing accounts right in your web browser.

Anyclip is another interesting startup. With AnyClip, you can search and view any moment from any movie, ever! The Company has developed ‘search and metadata extraction technologies’ which allow consumers and application developers to find the precise moment in time they are looking for. AnyClip works in partnership with Hollywood studios to unlock their massive libraries of films.
CitySourced is a realtime mobile civic tool, providing a free, simple and intuitive tool for us to report potholes, graffiti, rubbish, tree removal, etc. Along with the opportunity for local government to use technology to save money and be more accountable to those they govern, CitySourced allows for the everyday guy to hold those in government accountable to their duties.

And then lastly, Trollim is a skills evaluation and comparison platform that they expect users to get hold of in order to assess their coding level, performance and skill set against programmers worldwide. Programmers of similar skill sets and coding languages compete against each other either one on one or group on group. Trollim is able to evaluate multiple coding languages, skills and performance of the participants, compare their skill sets against others programmers and improve them over time. Companies will be able to license Trollim for internal use for better insight into the skill set of their programmers and the ability to strengthen their coding skills. Recruiting companies are also able to advertize using coding battles and receive detailed statistics on the participating programmers.
