I applied for a Top Up 135 account 2 days ago and I'm waiting for the sim to be activated but that's not the problem.

I just received two sms's.

1.) Vodacom SP Welcomes you. You have been activated on TopUp 135, your account will be debited in 48 hours.

The next sms however confuses me.

2.) Vodacom: A R2001.00 credit limit has been set on your account.

HUH? Am I being stupid here or what? Since when does topup accounts have credit limits? Can someone please explain what this means?

You get two limits...one for each line (call limit) and then you get a account limit. The account limit will take all lines into account and if your total account comes to R2000.00 then the account and all lines gets locked. This is done automatically. The limit looks a bit low though. Should you wish...PM me the number and I will have a squiz on the system and see what I can see.

I don't understand. What lines? This is a top-up contract.

Yes...and it has a number (a line). A account can have many lines linked to it. So you can have 3 lines linked to one account number. Each line can have a call limit (does not apply to Top Up as it uses airtime) and then you have a credit limit that applies to the entire account to which the lines are linked to.

Once again thanks for your response. I only have one line (number) with Vodacom (it's the one I just applied for) and it's topup so I still don't understand why credit limit thing applies to me and why they're sending me this sms. I still don't understand. How is Vodacom milking me?

They're not, ignore the troll.

They're simply stating that you have a credit limit with them of R2,000 should you ever be inclined to use it (by, for example, adding additional lines). It's a credit account like any you might have with Edgars, Woolworths, etc.

I dont know what Khanya is on about regarding that. You will need to ask him :-)

All accounts with Vodacom SP must have a credit limit. It will not affect you really seeing that the only line on the account is a top up contract. The reason why the credit limit is so low is most likely due to the fact that you only have one line on the account and cause you are a new client.

Thanks again. I still think it's a very confusing sms to the end user.

Rather inform you than not. When Vodacom SP loaded these credit limits a few years ago one of my corporate clients reached theirs and all their lines were locked. I am still emotionally scarred from the abuse I got from them.

But hey....082111 is a free call from a Vodacom sim or mybb is here to help :-)
