TopTV broadcast - pic on LCD/Plasma's

Guys,

There are too many TopTv threads for me to search through. Just need to find out from those that are actually watching the content on their LCD's, how is the pic quality and is it in 16:9 aspect?

I agree, Even a nice photo :P

Also is there any way to get our hands on there tv guide? I would really like to see what there chans have to offer. See what series is playing, what movies are playing etc...

Unfortunately, it seems like their initial guide option is going to be online only. (Apart from the EPG, of course but that only goes up to 24 hours ahead.) Hopefully as they start making money, they'll consider a printed version.
The online guide is still not online though. You can keep checking here to see when it comes up: http://www.toptv.co.za/tvguide

Okay thanks, well thats a start i guess! Will keep having a look until i see something!! Really hope they do work out, i think there is a market for them.
 
and the aspect ratio? This is the only thing holding me back at the moment.
 
Another question can someone take some photos of the decoder so we can see what it looks like?

I'm guessing the aspect ratio will be 4:3 for all channels at first, as they are catering for the entry level market. Maybe BBC World News will be in widescreen like on dstv.

Thanks, just want confirmation though. Would hate to view the channels with those black lines on my LCD or "stretch" the pic for 16:9

I dont know about you but our dstv 'guide' goes straight from the postbox to the rubbish bin. trying to find your programs in that book takes much longer than just using the guide on the decoder itself, as far as I know TopTV has no plans on having a similar printed book. Complete waste of effort by dstv to have one in my opinion. Online guide on their site would be nice though as soon as its up :)

You're absolutely right. I don't know when last I checked my Dish guide. But at the same time, I love getting it. It's one of the few occasions where I get something for free. (Well, kinda.)
I just hope that their EPG is extended to 7 days at least, instead of the +24hrs they currently have.

w00t .... 2 more hours till my installation.

can i then assume the quality of DSTV SD on my LCD will be the same as TopTV?
If MC doesn't broadcast in 16:9 then what was all the hype about re: aspect ratios?

the box supports 16:9 and 4:3 TVs with pillarbox & letterbox so aspect ratio will be correct for your TV.
there's also stretch mode

picture quality will look like SD looks on a large screen
