Hey guys,

anyone else experiencing bad quality on SABC 1 ? I have checked other channels and they all seem to work fine. SABC1 has these vertical lines running across the screen.

At the risk of sounding cheeky, what do you want to watch SABC for? :p

What i have noted is that, All SABC Channel break up now and then, like lossing signal especially around the afternoon.

Uh sabc for the swc so is it just me? If I can't get clear signal on sabc I may as well return it cos it's pointless.

This has do something to do from SABC side, where ever the signal originates from - I hope TopTV can send a technician to SABC to align the satellite. Also have noticed SABC3 goes blank for maybe 10-30seconds to maybe 1minute...

Time I noticed the faults occur often on SABC3 anything from 18:00
I hope the satellite aint faulty :( the transponders)

We'll need the SABC channels for the World Cup unfortunately.

LOL Noticed this as well.

Where we live we have terrible reception (only thing we got properly was ETV) so anything is an improvement at least.

Sure they will have it working pretty soon.

The image quality on Fox Entertainment looks a bit better than when we first got toptv

I believe that TopTV is originating its feed directly out of Europe, so programming is fed directly from there. As the SABC and eTV channels would need to first be transferred (fiber or satellite) to Europe it would make sense that there will be a slight delay, and quality reduction, as they are bound to be using compression techniques to reduce the bandwidth requirement from SA to their European broadcast centre. It would explain why the SABC and eTV quality is not of the same level as that of the other channels on TopTV.

Correct. The SABC and ETV are carried to Luxemburg via fibre through Globecast. From there it gets uploaded with the other channels to Astra 1E.From Astra 1E it gets transfered to Siruis 4.The uplink can't be done directly to Siruis 4,they don't have coverage.Normally c-band is used for point-to-point transmissions to deliver channels to the playout/uplink station but in this case it is not possible.
