Hello, forum.
I'm interested in subscribing to TopTV. Quite impressed with the line-ups on FOX, FX and TopOne. What I've noticed is that all programs that usually run for 30 mins/1 hour are running for 24 mins/45 mins.

So, are these channels without ads?

Correction, the channels advertise themselves but never in the middle of a program.

Though, and I'm open to correction, but doesn't ICASA state that a pay tv broadcaster can only make a certain amount of money of ad sales, so unless TT wantst to be as silly as DStv and advertise their own product on their own platform, then I really think it's up to those certain channels to decide if they want remaine addless throughout the program. But what do I know ;)

Ad'less for first year...

TopTV is supposed to have no ad revenue for the first year or something like that - meaning that they cannot take external ads and flight them on their channels (obviously for a fee). That is the ICASA regulation for new payTV's.

From 2011 (perhaps March if not earlier) expect to be bombarded with ads on TopTV.

So, enjoy it while it lasts.

The licence for TT states it may not make more than 5% from commercial advertising. The rest through subscriptions. At the moment it is just channel advertising, but they do not interrrupt shows. I really like all the British adverts on the music channels. I am cancelling TT till the end of the year. You think DSTV is bad with repeats, TT takes the cake. Hopefully they expand their channel offering and get more shows for their existing channels.

ANY paytv operater in SA can't earn more than 5% in ad revenue, its not just for the first year.It is pretty much the same in most parts of the world.Didn't you notice about 95@ of dstv
ads are inhouse content.Toptv don't have their own playout center. What you see is pure content distribution. There will be only ads on their branded channels.
